Hey guys, Sorry my blogs haven’t been as regular as I would like them to be but this has been due to family priorities. Anyways we are back and are going in to the final run in with Queens Park who are in league 2 in Scotland. Should we of moved here or should we of stayed at Bishop’s Stortford? only time will tell I guess. Did we meet the goal I had set last update? We shall soon find out. I’m not sure if we will stay here past the end of the season I am still undecided on this as of yet. Lets get going!
Our first game up today is against Arbroath who are lying in 4th..
Arbroath – Away – 4th – 8th – 1 – 0 Defeat
We came up against a strong Arbroath team today who out played us from start to finish, after their goal we had no answer to getting back in to the game. Despite us having most of the possession we did very little with the ball. Two shots on target all game is woeful.
A couple of days after the game we got our youth intake.
Steve Findlay raved about Paul Watson and we did bring him in to the first team. I was impressed with him and eventually kept him in the first team along with bringing a couple more in and giving them game time.
The potential ability of the youth intake.
These are the stats for Watson when he first joined.
He did improve and we eventually lost him at the end of the season to St. Mirren due to us only being able to offer amateur contracts. We tried to loan him back but he wasn’t interested.
East Fife – Home – 7th – 1st – 1 – 0 Defeat
Coming up against the league leaders I knew it was going to be a tough afternoon and a tough afternoon it was. A fairly boring a quiet game despite them dominating and only scoring within the first 10 minutes of the game there really wasn’t much more in the game. Happy to take the 1-0 defeat against the leaders. With us only having 1 shot on target is pathetic.
Berwick – Home – 9th – 7th – 2 – 2 Draw
A result which feels like a loss after giving the lead away twice. We was the better team and in my mind should of won despite them having more chances. It was a close game and a defeat would of seen us fall back from the group and fall deeper in to the relegation fight.
Montrose – Away – 4th – 9th – 3 – 2 Defeat
A poor result today against an average Montrose. With that win is still not coming for us we are slowly falling in to a relegation fight. A game in which we shouldn’t of lost but due to our poor defending and them being clinical in front of goal that made the difference today.
After not winning our last few games I have decided to bring in two players to help bolster the squad up and bring a bit of experience with them. Both of them were free agents.
First of the two is Darren Young. He is 37 and can play centre mid and defensive mid so he brings experience and has very good mental stats and I am hoping he can help improve the gap beween defence and midfield. He won’t play every game but he will be a strong squad player for this level.
Next up is Jamie McCluskey. He is a player who I will look to play as an attacking midfielder on the right side. He is another player who has good stats for this level and personally I can’t see him staying with us for long. He has good stats for this level with good acceleration and pace along with decent crossing and first touch stats. He will play more games compared to Young, McCluskey will challenge for the first team straight away.
Arbroath – Home – 9th – 4th – 3 – 1 Defeat
An even game but our defending cost us again. At one point during the game due to other scores we was bottom of the league. The two new boys played about 60 mins and looked decent, was very happy with their contributions. We also had a couple of trialists play in this game.they may not sign but it’s nice to see how they do in a league match. We are still struggling to convert our chances compared to our opposition in games.
The final 6 games to go..
East Fife – Away – 1st – 9th – 5 – 1 Defeat
This was an embarrassing performance and result against the league leaders. We looked completely off the pace and it looked like we are already down. We did try a different tactic in this game but that didn’t work from the off. Dissappointed all round and lessons have been learnt from this game.
Stirling – Home – 9th – 2nd – 2 -1 Win
We took the win in an even game against Stirling who are in second. We did get lucky coming away with the 3 points but a top performance all round after the results of late and for the lads to secure the 3 points against a good side I am happy with them. Next game is the relegation decider!
East Stirlinghsire – Away – 10th – 9th – 3 – 1 Win
Despite them having more chances we came away with the 3 points and the bigger chance of survival. Two wins on the bounce now and the confidence is hopefully rising. I did keep the same team as the last game and the lads looked tired during this game. I don’t know how they didn’t get anything from this game but I am glad they didn’t as this gives us a boost.
Elgin City – Away – 8th – 9th – 2-0 Defeat
A poor performance against the team above us. Beating these could of seen us gain points on them with only a couple of games to go. We was outplayed again and never looked like scoring. The stats show it was a fairly even game but Elgin deserved the win.
Clyde – Home – 9th – 5th – 3-1 Defeat
Another poor performance. We looked a better team in the second half, this team always wakes up in the second half after they are 1/2 goals down. Clyde thoroughly deserved their win as we looked poor against a mid table team.
Annan – Away – 7th – 9th – 3-1 Defeat
the final game of the season and we went out with a whimper. A game in which I was hoping we could possibly of got something wrong, although I did play some kids in this game to see what they can offer. Again we looked better in the second half in a game we deserved to lose. We offered very little in this game. On to the summer and the rebuilding of the squad shall begin.
So I achieved the goal that I set myself of keeping Queens Park up. Now the question is do I stay and continue to build this team and club or do i move on again to another club..? I’m happy that I kept us up but it was harder work than what I expected! It was a fun challenge though and depending on what happens in the summer we may be able to start moving up the league.
End Of Season Awards:
As you can see they had a fairly strong start to the season and then just dived down the table and even after we took over we couldn’t move up.
Thanks for reading this far! And any improvements to the save or my blog then please feel free to comment on here or tweet me at @The_FmGamer. I will try and get the next update out within the next week.
