We begin this season still at Queen’s Park of League 2 in Scotland. I said I was kind of looking to possibly move on if I could but currently the right team hasn’t became available yet. We go in to the second season unsure what to expect from the team and league. I have made some new signings to add to the squad and gone through pre season which was difficult to say the least. I am hoping we can be more competitive this season and improve on where we finished last season albeit we was only here for the last half of the season.
Pre Season Results
As you can see we only picked up one win which was probably expected, although I did expect more from the players in the Carlisle when we got smashed 6-0. Pre season results don’t concern me to much as I look to get the players match fit without their morale dropping to low.
We are predicted to have a fairly boring season and be around mid table. The cup draws haven’t been kind to us. Drawn away to Hibernian in the first round is a dent to our hopes of going on a run.
These are the 3 formations I will play. With Queen’s Park being an amateur team it will take them a while to fully learn and be comfortable with learning all of them so I will gradually add an extra formation as time goes on.
As you can see not to many ins and outs for a team at this level. I feel most of the players I have brought in a more squad players to bolster the squad rather than players fighting for the starting 11 positions.
Kelly comes in having been released from Hamilton. He is a young centre midfielder who will give us something we was lacking last season. He has a lot of potential and hopefully we can keep him for a while and he doesn’t get snapped up by another team as hes only on an amateur contract. Look forward to seeing him play.
We bring in Daniel after he was released from Aberdeen. He plays as a left back which is a position we was lacking. He is another player who has some good stats for this level and has good position. He will play games this season but unless he make the left back his own he will be second best.
Declan comes in as a back up striker. he is another young player and will hopefully improve over time given game time. Having never played a competitive game in his career I am hoping he will grab his chnace with us and kick his career on to that next level.
Bradley is another young player to join the group. We signed him after he was released from St. johnstone. He is a forward who has decent physical stats. His finishing could be a bit higher but hopefully he will do well for us.
The Season Begins
First 10 games…
Albion Rovers – Away – Cup
A disappointing game to open the season with. First half we was shocking and offered nothing of threat to Albion’s goal. Second half we came out a completely different team. We got back in the game with 2 second half goals taking it to extra time. Extra time killed us and we looked average and lost the game when Gavin Mitchell got sent off. We did play much better than what the stats suggest and I feel 4-2 was probably a bit harsh on us.
Clydebank – Home – Friendly
Our final friendly started with a very quiet first half. No serious chances for either side. Again we came out better in the second half. Overall despite the win it was a poor performance. I did play some of the fringe players as most of the starting 11 was tried from the last game.
Hibernian – Away – Cup
We got ripped apart this game. Hibernian looked a class above us in a game they started from start to finish. We did get a courtesy goal from Mortimer but we really didn’t offer much more in this game and Hibernian thoroughly deserved to win and go through to the next round.
Forfar – Away – League
We started our league campaign against the league favourites. We opened the scoring thanks to Woods but Forfar equalised in a half they looked better. Unhappy with conceding the goal from a corner. Happy to take a point from the opening game.
Elgin City – Home – League
A bore draw in our first home game of the season. An even game with very little hapening in front of goal. Neither team really looked like taking the game by the scruff of the neck and taking the 3 points.
We bring in Jeffries who can play anywhere in the final third. I will mainly play him as a striker or just behind the striker. He is a product of the Rangers academy. He is another with high potential. He doesn’t have much pace though.
Cove Rangers – Home – League
Our first win of the season came against Cove Rangers. We had a couple of trialists in this game I was taking a look at. Jeffries scored on his debut. He looks a good signing. Despite the stats we looked comfortable and thoroughly deserved the win.
Montrose – Away – League
A fairly boring game and Montose probably just edged and should of got the 3 points. An even game in reality with little end product for either side. Another new signing Kuznecovs has come in and done amazingly at centre back.
Albion Rovers – Home – League
A game in which we was disappointing and was second best to every ball. Our first defeat of the season in the league and we will hopefully bounce back from this in our next game. A game in which I was hoping we could of got revenge on them for knocking us out of the cup.
Stirling – Away – League
A game in which we won comfortably. The stats show it was a close game but we never looked like losing this one against Stirling who were bottom of the league. A debut goal for Shirkie was a good start to his career here and he made a good contribution all game.
Arbroath – Home – League
An even game in theory which got a bit easier for us when they had a player sent off in the first half which just after the red crd we scored our first goal. A game in which we finally began to take our chances and Jeffries looked quality again and showing his potential.
Berwick – Home – League
We was bloody awful first half and Berwick took full advantage of that and went 2-0 up. Same again in the second half. We was outplayed all game against a very average team. We was embarrassing. We didn’t even have a shot on target we was that shocking! I gave the players a reality check after that performance.
After 8 games we lie 5th just outside the play offs by goal difference. We have had a pretty good start to the season with 3 wins, 3 draws and 2 defeats. I’m feeling optimistic for the season and hopefully we can challenge for the play offs if we continue to pick up results against the teams below and try and get results against the top teams. I hope once the team gel and learn the formation we will create more chances and begin to take them too. Being a amateur team we have little to no staff which is hindering our players massively.
Our next 3 games are against the 3 teams directly above us. We also have the Scottish Cup to compete in and with a bit of luck we will get a smaller team so we can try and go on a run and gain extra income.
