Welcome back to my journeyman blog. We are still at Queen’s Park of Scotland in League 2. When I last wrote we was in 5th just out side of the play-offs after a fairly average start to the season. We are predicted to finish mid table but I am hoping that we can exceed that expectation and push for the play-offs or if we can really push on challenge for the title. Lets see what we can do!!
Annan – Away – League – 4th V 5th
The first half offered little chances and we conceded fairly early on. We got our equalizer thanks to Sean Burns who scored from the edge of the box. The second half offered much of the same as the first half with not many chances made from either side. A quiet game in which we could of stole the 3 points. A draw was a fair result.
Forfar – Home – League – 6th V 4th
A bore draw game in which we struggle to create chances and cause much of a threat to their goal. Another game in which a draw was a fair result as neither team looked like they would get the 3 points.
Elgin City – Away – League – 2nd V 7th
Elgin dominated us from start to finish. A shocking performance from us, we created nothing of serious threat. Elgin outplayed us in every department and we was very lucky to get our goal thanks to their defence slipping up.
Preston Athletic – Home -William Hill Scottish Cup 2nd Round
In a game we was expected to win we did just that to see us through to the next round. An early goal thanks to Gary Phillips seemed to settle our nerves and we controlled the game from there on in. We looked a much better team in the second half and could of added to the scoreline.
We bring in experienced Mike Mampuya who can play anywhere down the right. I have brought him in after seeing him play in a couple of games as a trialist and he looked alright. I feel he will become our first choice right back.
Cove Rangers – Away – League – 9th V 7th
A game in which the second half offered all the entertainment. A poor first half from us could of been worse if Cove Rangers had took their chances. We were lucky to get something from this game. Our best spell was the last 20 minutes or so when we got back in to the game through or two goals thanks to Biddulph and McCluskey. Cove had the chances to finish us off in this game but just couldn’t take the chances they had.
Montrose – Home – League – 7th V 2nd
A red card within the first half hour ruined our chances of getting anything from the game. We looked the better team in the first half despite only having 10 men. In the second half Montrose took control and won the game comfortably although the scoreline is quite flattering to them.
Albion Rovers – Away – League – 5th V 7th
After we conceaded early on it seemed to kick the players in to gear and we took control of the game and brought home the 3 points. We looked very comfortable in the second half and thoroughly deserved our win.
Stirling – Home – League – 7th V 9th
A quiet and scrappy first half with very little action to report on. We took the second half by the scruff of its neck and dominated the game and limiting them to only a handful of half chances. Happy with the performances of the last couple of games.
Annan – Home – League – 5th V 3rd
A game we won despite we looked average at best. We looked the better team overall although we did look a bit shaky in the first half. I am trying a new tactic and we have won 3 on the bounce with it.
Forfar – Home – William Hill Scottish Cup 3rd Round
After taking an early lead in the game we bottled it and got knocked out of the cup. A fairly even game and one which we never took our chances in and Forfar punished us for. A poor performance all round from us this game.
Arbroath – Away – Legue – 8th V 5th
We took the lead in what was a quiet first half. We came out much better in the second half and after we scored our 3rd the 3 points never looked in doubt. A fairly even game in which Rutherford troubled our defence all game.
On a side note we did get manager of the month!
Looking at our results from the last 11 games we have only lost 3 of them and 1 of them was in the cup. Having won our last 4 out of 5 league games it has really pushed us on up the table.
As you can see we in the play-offs and are in pretty good form. It is still close and anything can happen still. Hopefully we can keep on winning and pull away from a couple of teams and cement our place of at least the play-offs.
Coming up in the next few games we are playing teams around us. If we can pick points from them it will help keep us up in the play-offs. Being one of the inform teams I am hoping we can keep our run going.
Aaron Norris has really kicked on in the last few games and has really contributed to the team with 5 goals in as many games. Jeffries who is joint top goalscorer has dropped back to an attacking midfielder who will hopefully start assisting the strikers as well as contributing with more goals. Sean Burns seems to get booked in what seems like every game so that is something I will have to look at.
We are now out of all the cups for the season so we can concentrate on the league without anymore distractions. On the plus side is with us being an amateur team we won’t get tired as easy with playing more games but a minus is we won’t gain any income from a cup run. I have released a couple of players who wasn’t getting in to the team and now I feel we are becoming a tighter group who are willing to fight for one another. I will now only be bringing in players who I know will play a role in the team as we do have a couple of good youth players ready to step up who I may bring in and around the squad every now and then.
Thanks for reading!
Any suggestions on where to improve is much appreciated.
