Welcome back to to my journeyman save and we are beginning the new season. I am still at Queen’s Park in League 2. I have had interviews with Montrose, Macclesfield & Nantwich but each time they picked someone else over me. I am 100% committed to what we are doing here. I am hoping we have a good season and can continue improving on from last season. Iron out the silly performances and I believe we can be up there fighting for automatic promotion, but in this league anything can happen!
As you can see we have a tough number of games for our pre-season. The assistant pick the games for our pre-seasons. I never really bother about the results. For me it’s about getting the lads fitness up and getting the new lads up to speed with the tactics etc. It’s also a good chance to see youth players or any trialists I may have in play and see what they can offer. I would be happy with one win but we shall see. If we can keep the score down against teams like Palace and Coventry then we will have done well.
Linfield – Home – Friendly
Our first pre-season game of the season. We had a poor first half and offered nothing in form of chances. They got the winning goal early on in the first half. We was the better team in the second half despite only having one shot on target all game. Overall it was an average performance.
Scottish League Cup:
Petrofac Training Cup:
The draws for the League cup and the Petrofac Training Cup first rounds got drawn. We got a fairly easy team in the PTC putting us up against Albion Rovers who play in our league. Morton will be a harder challenge and we will have to be on top of our game to get anything from that to progress, but we are at home so maybe we can edge it with the home support… I am hoping we can go further in the cups than last season, last seasons cup runs were dissapointing to say the least.
Motherwell – Home – Friendly
A pretty poor showing from us against a very good side. We did well to keep the score down until the second half when they seemed to kick in to another gear and shown their class.
Crystal Palace – Home – friendly
Despite having no shots on target we did alright. Palace were creating chance after chance and our defence coped will with them for the majority of the game. Disappointed to concede a goal later on but happy to keep the score to 2.
Coventry City – Home – Friendly
We conceded fairly early on which didn’t help our confidence, it seemed to rock us for a few minutes. We played well after we composed our self and got back in to the game before half time. Even though we lost I was happy with how the lads played against much better quality and how we got ourselves back in the game in the first half.
Arthurlie – Home – Friendly
A game in which I thought we would get our first win never happened. It didn’t start off well when Drummond scored an own goal early on. Apart from that we played well all game and really should of got the win. Disappointed not to win.
Falkirk – Home – Friendly
A poor performance from us seen us lose 4-1 to Falkirk. When we took the lead we was the better team but when they got their second just before half time that seemed to decided the game and we had nothing else to offer.
So we end pre-season without a win. We did concede 15 goals while only scoring 4 ourselves which is worrying but we did play against much much better teams so it isn’t as bad as it sounds. I didn’t expect much from any of the games apart form Arthurlie who I thought we may of beat.
The expectations the board have set us this season are similar to my own expectations I have set myself apart from they want us to reach the fourth round of the Scottish Cup which I can’t see coming true but it all depends on who we get drawn against. As I have said before last seasons cup runs were short and sweet and hopefully we will get off to a better start this season and hopefully bring in some money for the club.
The bookies believe that we are one of the better teams this season and I would agree on that as I feel we improved the team last season and with the right additions this season will help improve our team. I am hoping though that the players can handle the pressure this year of expecting to win more games compared to last season. East Fife are 5th favourites who dominated us in the play-offs last season so hopefully we can get revenge on them for that. The league this year is harder and the quality of the teams is much higher which hopefully mean a good and tight season ahead.
We have only currently signed one player so far this season and two have gone. I am surprised we haven’t lost more of our squad with them being on amateur contracts. I am in negotiations with a number of players who will hopefully sign in the next few days. A couple of players are wanted so we may lose them in the coming weeks.
Mark is our only signing so far. He is a player who can play centre back or left back and has a decent potential. He will come in as first choice centre back for now as we have limited options for that position. If we can improve his stats then he will hopefully be a good signing for us.
Let the season begin………
Thanks for reading and I hope you are enjoying it!
