Getting Closer To The Title?

Hey guys,

Welcome back to my blog update as we continue to work towards winning the National League title having had a good start to the season with Crawley. I am still surprised with how well we started considering how many players we brought in the summer. We now have a tight bunch of players who all work for each other and we can rely on the players who don’t get as much game time to come in and put in a solid performance. We are now coming up to January and we are still looking strong and sit top of the pile by 2 points. Lets get on with the games…

Northampton – Home – League – 1st V 24th

A cagey opening 10 minutes against struggling Northampton was soon put to bed when Olley opened the scoring in the 13th minute. A comfortable win saw us pull further ahead in the second half with goals from Olley again and Brown. A good performance from the boys seen them get the 3 points.

Harrogate – Away – League – 5th V 1st

A poor performance from us seen us get beat 3-1 by an average Harrogate side. We never got going in this game until the game was practically over. Disappointed with this result as I was hoping we would come away with a result. We must improve and start taking our chances more.

Kidderminster – Away – League – 3rd V 1st

A good win against a team we are fighting for the title with. We got the win in a fairly even game after coming from behind with goals from Sesay just before half time and Walters and Bradley coming in the second half when we looked the much better side.

Morecambe – Home – League – 1st V 16th

Another comfortable win saw us beat Morecambe 3-0 thanks to two goals from Walters and a goal from Montgomery. Again we seemed to kick on in the second half we looked the better side and eased to the 3 points.

In the first round of the FA Trophy we got drawn at home to Boreham Wood who also play in the National League. Being at home in front of our fans will help and I also feel our team is stronger than Boreham Wood’s side which will hopefully help get us the win and progress in the cup.

Dover – Away – League – 20th V 1st

A slow start from us saw us go behind in the 10th minute to Dover with a goal from McClure. We got back in to the game not long after thanks to an own goal. We came out in the second half a much better side and got a goal just after half time which helped us on our way to picking up 3 points.

Torquay – Home – League – 1st V 6th

An early goal from Brown helped us get the victory against Torquay with our second goal coming in the second half from Montgomery. A dominant performance meant we got the 3 points.

Boreham Wood – Home – FA Trophy 1st Round

A good performance from us seen us cruising in to the next round until they got 2 goals in the last 4 minutes to take the game to extra time. We got the win the 120th minute when Brown took the final chance of the game and to help us progress in to the next round.

Having got past Boreham Wood in the previous round we come up against Dartford of the Vanarama South at home in the next round of the FA Trophy.  Again I feel we should be able to get past them and progress in to the next round although I won’t be taking them lightly as there is a possibility of them beating us.

Gateshead – Away – League – 1st V 15th

A bore drawn meant we leave Gateshead with a point in what was an even game. Gateshead really should of beat us but they never took one of their chances and with us never looking like scoring meant the game ended a draw.

Tranmere – Away – League – 10th V 1st

Another draw but one in which we should of got the 3 points after we dominated the game but just couldn’t take one our many chances. Tranmere never offered any serious threat to us this game as we controlled the game. Disappointed not to get the win but pleased with our performance.

Chester – Home – League – 1st V 12th

An abysmal performance seen us lose to Chester who stopped us from playing our game and getting the luck after a couple of defensive and goalkeeper errors lead to their goals. We got a goal back in the 82nd minute from Chicksen but it was not enough.

Results/Upcoming Games…

We are currently in a poor run of games having not won in the last 3 games which has been the worst run this season. I know we are a good team and we will pick up our performances and start winning again. We have a cup game coming up in the next few weeks which we are hoping to progress in. We also have some tough teams to play in the upcoming games with the likes of Forest Green, Margate, FC United who will be difficult to get points from.

We still sit top of the league despite not winning a game in the last 3. Our gap to second is 3 points which is effectively a game in hand but before our winless streak it was up to 6 points which would of been more comfortable. There is now a gap to 5th place so if the unthinkable did happen and we bottled it we should still get a chance to go up via the play-offs.

We are just in to January and may look to bring in a player or two to help the boys. I feel we are good enough to win the league and it is ours to lose. I have faith in the team and I know it won’t be long till we are winning again and hopefully that will start in our next game against Bromley. This is probably the best season I have had and we deserve to be there. As I have said before this is a club I am happy at and I am looking forward to moving forward with. I am pleased with the amount of players getting involved with the goals and we are not relying on one player for our goals. We are top and looking good for the title despite 3 without a win.

Thanks for reading and I hope you are enjoying it.
