Top Of The Table Clash

Alright guys,

Welcome back and in this update we have a FA cup game and we also come up against the league leaders Forest Green which if we win we can close the gap on and potentially go top should they slip up again.

Newport – Home – FA Cup 1st Round

A scrappy opening minutes before Newport took the lead. We equalized when Wright scored from a free kick about 30 yards out. A penalty early in the second half which McNulty converted gave us the lead which turned out to be the winning goal. Newport had a goal disallowed late on which was a heart in mouth moment!

Cup Draw

We have been drawn against Cheltenham at home. A game I feel we have a fairly good chance of winning and progressing in to the next round where we could potentially have a ‘big’ team come to our place.

*New Signing*

Brady Hickey:

We have brought in Hickey from Barwell. My scouts have been raving about him and we do need cover for the CAM position so I felt bringing him in for a fairly cheap price is not to much of a risk. He is young and has bags of potential. He will be in and around the first team.

Chester – Home – League – 2nd V 9th

Chester took the lead with a route one goal from their keeper when the ball bounced over our defence and their striker getting on the end of it and slotting past the keeper. Kent equalizes soon after from a corner with a nice headed finish. We got a penalty late on which Hughes converted and gave us the 3 points.

Braintree – Away – League – 9th V 2nd

Braintree opened the scoring in the 10th minute when Goodman scored from just inside the box. Kent equalized just after the half hour mark from a corner similar to last game. Hickey came on with about half hour to go and he got a goal on his debut not long after he had come on and we went 2-1 down. They got a third late on which I thought was the winner when they scored from the tightest of angles but Gorman scored with minutes to go to get a share of the points.

Forest Green – Away – League – 1st V 2nd

A must win game if we want to win the league. Devarn green gave us the lead just after 20 minutes with the help of a deflection from their defender. Davies saved a penalty just before half time which could of changed the momentum going in to half time. Green doubles our lead with 20 minutes to go with cool finish from the edge of the box. Forest Green got back in to the game late on but it wasn’t enough for us to drop any points.

Torquay – Home – League – 2nd V 14th

Green opened the scoring around the half hour mark. Green then gets himself a hat trick within 20 minutes in the second half . Torquay tried to get back in the game twice but Green had already killed the game off. A superb performance from the boys and especially Devarn Green.

We have been drawn away to York in the FA Trophy 1st round. A game in which will be a tough fight to progress to the next round.

Gateshead – Away – League – 14th V 2nd

A poor first half from us seen us go in to half time behind when Gateshead scored just before half time when they scored from a cross and our defence failed to clear the ball. A better second half performance from us meant we turned the game around to get the 3 points thanks to goals from Green and Palmer.

Results:

results

A good run of form from us and we are now unbeaten in 7 games. Green has been banging the goals in as of late after a little dry spell.

next-6

In our next 6 games we come up against 2 teams twice in the same week which is a bit bizarre. We also have two cup games coming up which we have to prepare for as they are against strong sides.

Table:

table

After our good run of form and win against league leaders Forest Green we have closed the game on them to 1 point. We are the in form team of the league currently and hopefully if they slip up we can capitalize on that and go top.

Player Stats:

player-stats

That boy Green is flying as I predicted and he could easily get between 30-40 goals by the end of the season. He is our main goalscorer as well as providing assists for others which is a vital help for us picking up points.

Star Player

Star player of this update is Frankie Kent. He has been solid all season and has been getting better and better as of late and he rarely has lower than a 7 match rating. A solid player who also contributes with goals. He has some good stats and as he is young he will only keep improving and hopefully we can persuade him to stay when his loan expires. Let’s hope he can contribute with more goals for the rest of the season.

Thanks for reading and I hope you are enjoying it! In the next update we begin with the FA up game against Cheltenham!
