We are slowly coming to come to the end of the season and we are sitting in pole position for the league title. We are far from comfy at the top of the league with Forest Green snapping at our heels. We are still on our cup run and hopefully we can continue and potentially get more than one pieces of silverware in our first season??
Bradford Park Avenue – Away – FA Trophy 2nd Round
A lively opening few minutes with both teams having good chances to take the lead. Mullin got our opener in the 12th minute with a tidy finish in to the corner of the net. Green doubles our lead after he takes advantage of a mix up between their defender and goalkeeper. Sinclair pulls one back for Bradford in the 26th minute. They then equalize minutes before half time. Bogle gets our third after some nice play leading to Hickey playing a through ball to Bogle. Sinclair gets his second of the game and the equalizer to take the game to a replay.
Bradford Park Avenue – Home – FA Trophy 2nd Round Replay
A much better performance and more expected result. Kent opened the scoring just before half time with a nice finish from a corner. Gorman gets our second with a cool finish again from a corner. Sinclair pulls one back for Bradford just after the hour mark and that is all that happened and we progress in to the next round at the second time of asking.
The draw puts us up against Boreham Wood of our league. A tough game will be expected and hopefully the home advantage can help. Would of preferred an easier draw but you have to beat the good teams to win anything.
Woking – Away – League – 13th V 1st
Green gets us off to a good start after he finished a nice team build up play. Palmer doubles our lead with a header. Woking get a goal back not long after. Woking pull level late in the second half shortly before Green gets his brace and puts us in the lead again. Hickey secures the win with 5 minutes to go.
Dagenham & Redridge – Home – League – 1st V 11th
A quiet first half with the only action being our first goal when Wright when he gets on the end of a knock down and slots it past the keeper. Bogle gets the second of the game shortly after the hour mark. Green gets the third of the game which secured the points which was also his 30th of the season before Dagenham get a consolation goal and Hickey gets our fourth of the game. We finished the game with 10 men after Bogle went off with a neck injury.
Barrow – Away – League – 13th V 1st
Gorman gets us off to a good start when he opens the scoring when he got on the end of a Wright through ball and puts it past the keeper which was the only real action of the first half. Palmer gets the second of the game not long in to the second half with a nicely placed header in to the corner. Barrow get back in to the game with a goal in the 76th minute just before Evans gets a second yellow meaning we finish the game again with 10 men.
Boreham Wood – Home – FA Trophy 3rd Round
We got off to an awfully slow start and Boreham took full advantage of that and went 1-0 up in the first minute of the game. Mullin pulls us level on the hour mark from the tightest of angles. Wynter puts us in the lead when he scored a beautiful goal from the edge of the box. A good performance from the boys in what was a hard fought win and we progress in the cup again.
We have been drawn at home to Macclesfield which again will be a tough game and the next obstacle we have to try and get past in our attempt to win the cup. Macclesfield have been struggling this season but that won’t stop them putting in a performance and making it difficult.
After a number of unsuccessful attempts at bringing players in to help improve or bolster the squad we only managed to get one player in as of yet and that is Zak Vyner who joins us on loan from Bristol City until the end of the season. He has some good stats and initially will be a back up player.
A good run of results for us has seen us go unbeaten in about 9 games which includes cup games. We are still conceding silly goals but we are still outscoring the opposition so it’s not much of a worry yet.
The next 6 games sees us come up against a couple of teams around us as well as the next round of the FA Trophy which we are close to getting in to the quarters.
We are still top and have pulled out a slight gap to Forest Green who have slipped up in a couple of games. If we do manage to bottle it then we have a comfortable gap to the teams in the play offs.
I have added the player stats for the league this time to compare how our players are doing compared to the rest of the league. As you can see Devarn is the top goalscorer as well as having the highest average rating and the most man of the matches. We also have the top player with the most assists which Devarn is also in the top 3 of(That boy is decent!).
The star player of this blog is Ollie Palmer. He has recently come back in to the team and he has performed much better and is contributing a lot more. He hasn’t scored the most but he has worked the hardest and has improved since he has joined. His career stats show he isn’t one for scoring 20+ goals every season but he does offer something our other strikers don’t.
Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoy!
