We begin part one of the season finale updates with some vital games that could define our season with games against Forest Green who are still hot on our heels & a semi final against Braintree with a chance of winning another trophy.
Just a quick note we had our youth intake before our game against Forest Green and this lad is the best of the bunch. He does look decent but we currently don’t play with wingers so he would be a waste in the first team but we will keep an eye on his development.
Forest Green – Home – League – 1st V 2nd
An even first half with both teams rarely having chances on goal up until we got the opener late in the first half thanks to Kent when he got the ball on the edge of the box and curled it past the keeper. Not bad for a centre back. Forest Green got an equalizer in the 74th minute when Tubbs heads past our keeper. We retook the lead late on when Hickey slots it past the keeper after a swift counter from us.
Braintree – Home – FA Trophy Semi Final 1st Leg
Bogle gets the opener inside 4 minutes after Campbell-Young whips the ball in to the box and Bogle rises highest and powers it past the keeper. Wynter gets our second after a goal mouth scramble and Wynter manages to stab it past the keeper in to the net. Campbell-Young makes it 3 late on after some nice play by the lads with every player having a touch and Mullin lays it off to him and he smashes it past the keeper at his near post.
Dover – Home – League – 1st V 13th
Hickey gets the first of the game and his 10th of the season when he gets ball on the edge of the box knocks is past 2 players and curls in to the top corner. Dover equalize after they get a throw in near our box and they cross it in to the box and we can’t clear it and they slot it in to the net. We come out much better in the second half and Green gets our second and the 3 points shortly after half time with a tidy finish from inside the box.
Braintree – Away – FA Trophy Semi Final 2nd Leg
Mullin breaks the deadlock when he gets on the end of a 60 yard pass by Ihiekwe and smashes it past the keeper. Braintree equalizer a couple of minutes later after a cross field ball where none of our players were and their player runs in to the box and puts it past the keeper. Wynter puts in back in the lead after some nice play and scores with a nice finish from the edge of the box. Braintree pull level again when they score from a cross which we couldn’t clear quick enough. Bogle gets the third with minutes to go when Green puts him through 1 v 1 with the keeper and he cooly slots it home. Green makes it 4 in injury with a sweet finish from inside the box after Hickey makes space and lays Green off to score.
Cup Final Draw
We are up against Hampton & Richmond in the final of the FA Trophy and we go in to it as clear but we go in to it expecting an easy win. We do have strong chance of getting at least one trophy this season though.
North Ferriby – Away – League – 23rd V 1st
A disappointing game from the off and we never looked like taking any of our chances. A quiet first half with neither team having a shot on target. A frustrating second half saw us have chance after chance and looked like the team to get the 3 points until North Ferriby sucker punched us and got the winner in the 89th minute when we couldn’t clear the ball.
We brought 3 players in for the final run in of the season. 2 loans and an experienced player on a 1 year deal. We have brought in another striker to add competition as some of them have been unable to score in recent games. Joe comes in as back up right back as Campbell-Young was out for 2 games and we looked vulnerable when he wasn’t playing & we have brought in Danny Collins as an experienced head who can help the younger players and may possibly get game time for us.
Braintree – Home – League – 1st V 9th
Green opens the scoring when he scores a worldie when he lobs the keeper from 30+ yards. Green gets his second 5 minutes later when he outpaced their defence and puts it past the keeper in to the bottom corner. Green then gets his hat trick inside 20 minutes when Hickey puts a ball over the top and Green gets on the end of it and curls it home. Braintree pull one back shortly after the hour mark but we held on for the 3 points.
We have had some good performances lately but against North Ferriby was the worse I had seen us play in a long time. We beat Forest Green to extend our lead and pretty much means we have one hand on the title.
Our remaining 7 games are all against tough opposition and we only need to win the next 3/4 games to confirm us as champions depending on how Forest Green do.
We are nearly there and have a game in hand on second place due to our cup run. We edging nearer to that title and we look the best team in the league after how easily we beat Forest Green.
Devarn is the man of the team and is so close to getting 40 goals for the season. Campbell-Young is such a quality player and I hope we can keep hold of him in the summer as he can go along way.
Thanks for reading and I hope you are enjoying it.
