Season Finale

Alright guys,

Welcome back to the final update of this season. We have 8 games remaining and we are on course to win the league and we also have a strong chance of picking up the FA Trophy as well. We win the next 3/4 games and the league title is ours so hopefully no slip ups this late in the season which has been a fairly straight forward one looking back at it. A potential two trophies in the first season isn’t a bad start to life at Tranmere.

Torquay – Away – League – 19th V 1st

A quiet first half with the only real action being Torquay taking the lead just before half time. We came out much better and we pull level a minute into the second half when Green firing past the keeper. Green gave us the lead minutes later after a route one ball from the keeper up to him who controlled it and curled it in. Green scores again a minute later for a 5 minute hat trick and his 40th of the season. Torquay pull one back with a nice finish. Wynter got a second yellow late on and we ended the game with 10 men.

Wrexham – Away – League – 7th V 1st

Wrexham open the scoring after we couldn’t clear their corner and they headed it past the keeper who was helpless. Green gets the equalizer after Mullin squares it along the 6 yard line and Devarn taps it home. We go in to half time in front after Wrexham scored an own goal in injury time after he headed it in to his own goal from a corner. We get a third in the second half after the keeper fumbles  a shot from Southwell in to his own net. Wrexham get one back a minute later after a goalkeeping mistake of our own and they tap it in to an empty goal.

Solihull – Home – League – 1st V 22nd

Southwell gets his first goal for the club when he gets on the end of a corner and pokes it in from a couple of yards out. Solihull get the equalizer after our defence couldn’t clear and Kyei smashes it past the keeper. A quiet second half with neither team having any serious chances to get the winner and we ended the game with 10 men when Campbell-Young gets a second yellow for a poor challenge. We really should of got more from this game but it wasn’t meant to be.

Aldershot – Home – League – 1st V 6th

Hickey opens the scoring inside 5 minutes with a nice team goal ending with Mullin laying it off to Hickey who slots it home. We concede a penalty late on which they convert straight down the middle to pull level. We get the winner a couple of minutes from time thanks to Bogle after a short corner catches them out and Bogle has space in the box to take his time and tuck it past the keeper.

We have done it! The result against Aldershot was enough for us to secure the title! What an achievement for the boys. They have done amazing this season.

Guiseley – Away – League – 19th V 1st

Mullin gets the opener after a scrappy opening half hour when he scores from a free kick which flew in to the top corner with the keeper not having a chance of saving it. Gorman gets sent off on the stroke of half time after getting a second yellow. Mullin  gets his second just after they hour mark after Hickey plays a nice through ball down the right and Mullin picks up and takes it past the keeper and curls it round the keeper. Mullin gets his hat trick late on after Turner went route 1 and and Mullin takes a touch and smashes it home.

Southport – Home – League – 1st V 21st

Hickey breaks the deadlock with a sweet finish from the edge of the edge of the box which flew in to the top corner with the keeper only being able to get a touch as it went in. Mullin doubles our lead in stoppage time to secure the 3 points with a cool finish past the keeper in to the bottom corner.

Maidstone – Away – League – 12th V 1st

A disappointing performance and result with Maidstone getting their first of the game after our keeper flaps at a cross and it falls to their winger who has an open goal to shoot at. Maidstone then get their second early in the second half from a corner and Taylor rose highest and headed home. Another game we really should of got something from and dropped more points.

Hampton & Richmond – Neutral – FA Trophy Final

Wynter gets us off to a good start in the final when he scores a free kick centre of the goal and curls in to the corner. Mullin gets our second after Green plays him through and finishes it nicely past the keeper in to the inside of the net. Mullin gets his brace a couple of minutes later from the penalty spot which he rolls down the middle. Hickey gets our fourth before half time with a nice curling effort from the edge of the box which beat the keeper. Hampton got a foot back in to the game shortly after the hour when their striker outpaced our defence and slots it under the keeper. Hickey gets his brace after Palmer chips it over the defence for him to get on the end of and fires it home. Hampton get a second with 10 minutes to go after some of their best play and slotting it past our keeper.

We have won the FA Trophy! We have done the double! What a crazy season. We could of easily bottled it in the final but the players stood up and took the chances to secure our second lot of silverware this season.

We had a good final run in of the season with a small blip on the final day of the league season when we under performed against Maidstone.

Champions of the National League! We won with a comfortable cushion to Forest Green who finished in second. We thoroughly deserve this and have hardly put a foot wrong this season which helped us win the league. We did concede the most of the top 5 which we will look in to over the summer.

Player Stats:

As I predicted at the start that man Devarn Green smashed it in this league and got 41 goals for the season with 38 being in the league. We had a good number of players who helped contribute with goals and assists to help us finish first. A lot of the boys have over a 7 rating which shows how good we have been this season.

Devarn Green also takes the spoils at the awards night by getting the Fan’s player of the season by 9% to Frankie Kent who had a solid season at centre back. Along with getting young player of the season he was also the signing of the season. Hickey got in to the team of the season which is a small surprise as I was unsure of how well he will do at this level but he has come in and played superbly.

So we have done it! We have won the double – league and FA Trophy. I never thought we would win the league or a cup at the beginning of the season but the boys have done amazingly and once we got further in to the season I started to believe more and more and that we may actually win something especially when we beat Forest Green twice who were our main threat. On to preparing for next season now in the Football League which is going to be harder and we are going to have to bring in the right players who and try and secure new deals for some of the boys already here. Bring on next season!

Thanks for reading and I hope you are enjoying it.
