Tough Times

Alright guys,

We continue our journey to the top as we begin stage 2 of our plan. Survive this season and build on it in the summer and try and move on to stage 3 in the next couple of seasons. We have started pretty slowly and we need to start picking up points if we want to stay in this league. This season is going to be a long hard fight and every game is going to be tough and we have to step up and perform week in week out.

We have brought in 3 more players 2 of which came in on deadline day. I am now more happy with better quality of players to fight for the starting 11. The only position I am still unsure on and was unable to further improve on was the keeper. Davies is our number 1 but has looked so poor so far this season so I may have to drop him for a few games.

Mansfield – Away – League – 7th V 12th

Mansfield open the scoring after we couldn’t deal with a cross and their striker had time to control it in the box and slot it past our keeper. Mansfield double their lead from a counter after we had been pilling on the pressure but Mansfield ended any hope of us getting anything from the game.

Bury – Away – Checkatrade Trophy – 1st V 4th

We get the opening goal just before the half hour mark after a short corner to Comley who smashes it past the keeper. We concede a corner just before half time which Danns converts straight down the middle. We go in at half time in front when Clarke-Harris crosses to Ball who heads home. Bury equalize shortly before the 60th minute from a shot on the edge of the box that flew in to the top corner. Walsh gets the winner after a one two with Enobakhare and he curls it home.

Newport – Home – League – 17th V 22nd

A quiet game on the while with the only real action being a red card and a last minute winner for Newport which they really didn’t deserve. Evans got sent off in the second half for a second yellow for a sloppy tackle which he didn’t need to make. Newport got the winner late in injury time when they burst past our defence who couldn’t keep up and they tucked it past the keeper to snatch the 3 points.

Blackpool – Away – League – 13th V 18th

Blackpool get the opening goal shortly before half time when we didn’t deal with a cross which Redshaw took advantage of and slotted home. Essam gets our equalizer getting on the end of a cross and heading home. Enobakhare puts us in front after the goalkeeper flapped at a chance from Stewart and Enobakhare taps it in to an empty net. Blackpool pull level not long before the final whistle with a 30 yard screamer. We also went down to 10 men again when McLaughlin gets a second yellow for a bad tackle.

Yeovil – Home – League – 18th V 4th

Stewart breaks the deadlock after he gets on the end of a Maxwell through ball and he cuts in and curls it in to the bottom corner. Yeovil equalize when Maxwell passed the ball to no one which a Yeovil player picked up took a touch a smashes it past the keeper at his near post.

Stevenage – Away – League – 1st V 18th

Stevenage score the opening goal after Davies was in no mans land and they ran past him and tapped it in to an empty goal. Stewart pulls us level when Maxwell plays him through and he hits it under the keeper. Stevenage get the winning goal after Dowling loses control in his own box which they capitalize on and tuck it in to the goal.

After 9 games we lie 18th and 3 points clear of the relegation zone. We have looked pretty poor in most of our games so far this season which isn’t a good sign until we changed formation and we look far better but we just can’t convert more of our chances. I felt we deserved more from the Newport and Yeovil games and on another day we could of got 3 points from them games. The players are still fitting in to the tactics and jelling with each other and once we click we should be safe comfortably come the end of the season.

Thanks for reading.
