A Crazy Couple Of Games..

Alright guys,

Welcome back to my blog as we look to improve our league standing with Tranmere. We are slowly playing better and picking up more and more points which is what we need. We have a mixed bag of games in this update with games in the league, FA Cup and the Checkatrade Trophy (which no one cares about anyway!).

Crawley – Away – League – 8th V 18th

A good start from us which Ennis proved when he gave us the lead after Maxwell intercepts the ball and lays it off to Ennis who smashes it across the keeper and in to the inside of the goal. Crawley level after a through ball of their own cuts open our defence and they slot it home. We finished the game with 10 men as McLaughlin gets himself sent off with a stupid two footed tackle.

Southend – Away – FA Cup 1st Round

A quiet first half which turned in to an action packed second half with Southend breaking the deadlock from a corner which we couldn’t clear. Clarke-Harris gets our equalizer when he gets on the end of a great cross from Evans. We go in front thanks to a Comley curler from the edge of the box. Stewart makes it 3 a couple of minutes later after a defensive error and he’s free to tap it home. Southend pull one back late on but it wasn’t enough as we progress through.

Port Vale – Home – Checkatrade Trophy – 1st V 4th

We take the lead early in the second half after a scrappy opening half. Dowling converts the penalty cooly into the bottom corner. Walsh gets our second when he stabs home into an empty net after a Shephard shot hit the post. Enobakhare makes it 3 when he heads home at the back post thanks to a whipped cross from Evans.

Doncaster – Home – League – 18th V 3rd

Ennis gets us off to a  great start inside 10 minutes when he gets on the end of a through ball from Evans and puts it past the keeper at his near post. Enobakhare gets our second after a Clarke-Harris plays a ball over the top and volleys it into the back of the net from just inside the box.

AFC Wimbledon – Home – League – 15th V 24th

We take the lead after their defence heads in a Shephard cross into his own goal. Wimbledon pull level after a ball over the top and their striker outruns our defence and slots it past our keeper. Clarke-Harris puts us back in front after Ennis robs the ball and passes to him on the edge of the box and curls it past the keeper. Enobakhare gets our third when Clarke-Harris squares it to him and drills it into the top corner. Clarke-Harris gets his second and our fourth when he gets on the end of an Enobakhare through ball and pokes it past the keeper. Ennis makes it five before half time with Enobakhare again the provider as he sets up Ennis who nods it home. Wimbledon pull one back scoring into an empty net after a mix up from our defender and keeper. Enobakhare gets our sixth tapping it home from 6 yards.

Peterborough – Away – League – 2nd V 12th

Peterborough take the lead inside 20 minutes when we couldn’t deal with a cross and they head it home. Maxwell gets us level with Evans playing a lovely through ball to him which he cooly slots it past the keeper. Enobakhare puts us in front with a beautiful volley from outside of the box. Ennis gets our third after a lovely solo run from inside his own area taking on 4 or 5 defenders and then rounding the keeper to tap it home. Peterborough get their second with a volley of their own from inside of the box giving the keeper no chance. Ball gets our fourth with a cool finish in the box curling it past the keeper. Peterborough get a third when Coulthirst curls it in to the bottom corner. They then get an equalizer in the final few seconds after our defence fell asleep and Coulthirst gets his fourth of the game with a nice finish past our keeper.

We are finally looking like a team that belongs in this league. We are moving up the league quite nicely and are slowly putting some pressure on the top 7. We have looked much better since we went back to our 4312 which was so successful last season. What a crazy couple of games Wimbledon and Peterborough were! We really should of beat Peterborough if we didn’t lose concentration in the final few minutes. Also a dominant performance against a strong Doncaster side limiting them to one chance all game. We are coming up to January and I have a couple of targets in mind and also an idea of who may be leaving if a deal with a club can be done. We have some ‘easier’ games coming up which we should win but we won’t take anything for granted and we will take every game as it comes.

Thanks for reading.
