The Christmas Period

Alright lads,

We’re at the halfway point in the season as we come to the Christmas period with little rest time in between games. We are still fighting hard to get in to the play offs which would be a massive achievement in our first year. We have a massive home game in the FA Cup against Premier League side West Brom.

Leyton Orient – Home – League – 12th V 5th

A quiet first half with neither team causing the opposition goal any serious threat. We open the scoring inside the first couple of minutes in the second half with Enobakhare chipping the ball to Clarke-Harris on the edge of the box who turns and fires in to the top corner. We double our lead when Shephard whips in a ball from the by line to Dowling who is on the edge of the box and volleys it in to the back of the net scraping the bar on the way in. Orient pull one back with a cross across the box which we didn’t clear and they tap it in. Orient get the equalizer late on with a lovely curling effort from the edge of the box.

Plymouth – Home – League – 12th V 8th

Ennis converts our dominant first half performance in to a lead with a shot from outside of the area with the outside of his foot which flew in to the top corner. Plymouth equalize straight from kick off after a mix up with our defence and keeper with neither going for the ball leaving their striker to tap in to an empty goal. We retake the lead early in the second half with Ennis getting on the end of a through ball from Comley and slotting it under the keeper in to the net. Ennis gets a deserved hat trick and wraps up our win after a lovely counter attack and Stewart playing it over the top to Ennis who takes it round the keeper and rolls it home.

Morecambe – Away – League – 21st V 10th

An early red card for us changed the game and was the only real action of the first half. We go in front despite being down to 10 men thanks to our main man Ennis who gets on the end of a beautiful ball by Comley and smashes it home. Morecambe pull level late on when they break through our defence and score a one v one.

West Brom – Home – FA Cup 3rd Round

We take a shock lead against a strong West Brom side when Comley scores a lovely curling effort from just inside the box. West Brom get their expected goal after we were sloppy and lost the ball on the edge of our box and punish us by tucking it in to the corner. We had a golden chance late on to go through but Stewart’s shot from the edge of the box smacks the post and went out for a goal kick.

Luton – Home – League – 11th V 1st

Luton open the scoring inside 10 minutes with a lovely free kick which our keeper had no chance of stopping. Adams gets our equalizer scoring a lovely free kick of our own which rockets in to the top corner. Luton retake the lead with some build up play on the edge of our box and fires it in from just inside the box which our defence couldn’t deal with. They get a third scoring in an empty net after a rebound off the post and our keeper not reacting quick enough. Luton wrap up the win with a fourth from the penalty spot by rolling it down the middle. Clarke-Harris gets one back for us with a powerful effort from inside the area. Clarke-Harris gets his second with a lovely curling effort which goes in to the corner. Luton get a fifth when our keeper clears the ball up field but doesn’t get back quick enough and they score from 40 yards.

Wycombe – Away – League – 7th V 11th

Wycombe take the lead scoring from a tight angle inside the box. Maxwell gets our equalizer minutes later with a tidy finish from the corner of the box. Ennis gives us the lead just before half time by getting on the end of a cross from McLaughlin and heads it past the keeper. Wycombe level when they cross the ball in and they rise highest to nod it in to the goal. Wycombe get the winner with a ball over the top with our defence not getting back in time and Woolery smashes it past the keeper.

A fairly poor run of games where I feel we could and probably should of picked up more points if we hadn’t of made some silly mistakes. The boys did put in a massive performance against West Brom which I was proud of and we could of won it on another day. Whoever wins the replay will play Millwall in the next round. As I’ve said before since we’ve gone back to our title winning formation we have looked a lot more comfortable at this level and play as if we belong here. The transfer window is open and we haven’t done any business as of yet apart from extending Dowling till the end of the season although we are in talks with a number of players/clubs hoping to get a couple of deals done.

Thanks for reading.
