The Final Push

Alright lads,

Welcome back to the final season update as we prepare to fight for a play off space or settle for another season in League 2. They lads have done amazing this season and I hope they can keep it up in these last few games. We didn’t sign anyone else but we have agreed a couple of deals with players to join for the start of next season.

Doncaster – Away – League – 11th V 8th

We take the lead from the penalty spot after Shephard gets pushed inside the area with Le Fondre converting by putting the ball in to the bottom corner. We double our lead minutes later when Maxwell lays it off to Le Fondre on the edge of the box and curls it in to the far corner.

AFC Wimbledon – Away – League – 24th V 7th

Wimbledon get the opener scoring a header from an early ball in to the box. Enobakhare gets our equalizer just before half time after a clearance falls to him on the edge of the box and volleys it in to the top corner. Wimbledon win it in injury time when they break and Poleon puts it past the keeper at his near post.

Peterborough – Home – League 8th V 5th

A tight game with neither team creating many serious chances to break the deadlock in either half until we scored with 20 minutes to go. Kiwomya lays it off to Comley who smashes it in to the back of the net giving the keeper no chance.

Carlisle – Away – League – 13th V 7th

We had an awful start when we concede a penalty in the first minute which they convert by tucking it in to the corner. Carlisle double their lead when Miller gets on the end of a cross and heads home. Maxwell pulls one back for us after Dowling plays a ball over the top to him and he slots it under the keeper. Kiwomya gets our equalizer late on when Maxwell plays a through ball to Kiwomya who rounds the keeper and rolls it home.

Barnet – Home – League – 7th V 21st

Le Fondre gives us the lead inside 20 minutes when he gets on the end of a cross from Shephard and fires past the keeper at his near post. Le Fondre doubles the lead after Ennis nods the ball down to him inside the box and he tucks it past the keeper in to the bottom corner. Barnet pull one back late on but it wasn’t enough as Adams wraps up the win in injury time with a tidy finish from a tight angle inside the box.

Plymouth – Away – League – 12th V 6th

A scoreless first half despite us having a number of good chances to break the deadlock. Comley does open the scoring just before the hour mark with a tidy finish by curling it past the keeper from the edge of the box. Ennis gets our second after we break and Le Fondre squares it to Ennis who is there to tap it home. Dembele gets our third when he controls the ball from a corner on his chest and smashes it past the keeper at the near post.

Morecambe – Home – League – 5th V 22nd

Ennis puts us in front when he gets on the end of a through ball from Enobakhare and fires it past the keeper. They go down to 10 men shortly before half time when he gets a second yellow for a high tackle. Evans gives away a penalty after pushing a player at a corner which Mullin converts drilling it straight down the middle. Clarke-Harris gets the winner late on when he gets on the end of a cross and nods home.

Leyton Orient – Away – League – 2nd V 5th

Shephard opens the scoring when he gets the ball in the box from Le Fondre and smashes it across the keeper in to the far corner. Ennis doubles our lead when he volleys in a cross from Shephard past the keeper. Orient pull one back after a mix up in defence leaves their striker free with an open goal to tap it in. We get a penalty with 10 minutes to go which Trotter scores in to the top corner. Clarke-Harris gets our fourth when he rises highest and nods it home. Orient get a second when Simpson scores at the near post. Simpson then gets his second of the game when he reacts quickest in the box to poke it in to the back of the net.

We did it! We have won promotion to League 1! And we didn’t have to play in the play offs as we finished in third! What a crazy end to the season and if we didn’t have a slow start to the season then who knows we may have won the league. I never thought we would do it. I thought we would sneak in to the play offs and struggle and we would come back stronger next season to have another go at getting promoted. I can’t fault the lads. Every single one of them has put in a shift and they deserve to play at a higher level as at times we did look to good for this league. We may not be here to witness that as I have spoke to other clubs about a potential move but we will see how they play out. The two signings we made were done out of expecting to be in this league next season but they both should still be good enough next season to put in good performances.

David Nugent:

Jake Forster-Caskey:

David comes in as he has league experience which something we do lack upfront and with Ennis possibly not coming back next season David offers us something a bit different to what we have now. Jake is a player we have been after for months and months and months but we just couldn’t get the deal over the line until right at the end of this season but we missed the deadline so we now have to wait until next season to be able to use him. I am pleased to get both players in and it can only improve the squad.

New Stadium?

Shortly after the season had finished I received this! The club is looking to move and build a new ground and hopefully a bigger one! This can only help the club move forward although I am slightly concerned as to why they are doing this as our finances are not the best but if this is what they want to do then I have no arguments.

Budget:

This is our transfer budget for next season which is poor considering we will be in a league with tougher opponents but we will have to continue using the loan list and signing free agents and we may be forced in to selling our most valued players but we shall see.

So we gain promotion out of League 2 at the first attempt which is crazy considering the size of the club and the teams we beat to it. We will now look to prepare for next season and see what players we can bring to the club and see what we can do in League 1.

Thanks for reading.
