We are back and we are preparing for life in League 1 which I feel will be a long hard season against some strong sides. This is just a quick update as to what has happened during pre season and we start the league action in the next blog. It has been a pretty busy summer with ins and outs which was expected. So let’s go through our new signings and see how we did in our pre season games.
We have have brought in some good players who also have time to get better. I feel our midfield has improved massively with the signings we have made this summer. It has been hard to bring in players when we have one arm behind our back with so little space to manoeuvre in the market financially, along with players choosing other clubs over us. We have also managed to keep Ennis, Enobakhare and Dowling on loan for another season which I am over the moon about. I did bring in some players on trial but none of them proved themselves to earn a contract.
Overall it has been a good pre season as it’s all about getting the lads up to full fitness and ready for the season. I never bother that much about pre season games as I have said before but on a side note it is good to see a number of different goalscorers. We have tried a couple of tactics over the pre season and they seem to be working fine and the players have adapted to them fantastically.
Here is the league table and as you can see there are a number of strong sides who are to big for this division and should lock out the top 6 places. I am happy to take anything but to get relegated straight back down. We have a good enough squad I feel to finish around mid table which is a solid base to build upon next season should we achieve what we are aiming for.
The preview of the season are putting as finishing around 12th which is better than what I expected when we got promoted so it proves our squad is strong and the players we have brought in and will bring in has only improved the team. 33-1 to win the league? I don’t see why we can’t win it……!
So as we turn to the season opener at home to Wycombe the EFL first round was drawn and we are away to Derby. It will be a hard but winnable game but I think I may try and concentrate on the league this season over the league games.
I think this is my starting 11 and my strongest line up at the current moment. We are still one or two signings away from the squad being as string as we can make it and being truly happy with it. We do need more depth in some positions but this is what we are starting with and we can be competitive with these boys.
Thanks for reading and let’s get ready for the league!
