Right let’s kick on and carry on with the season as we are nearly at the end of the season and looking good to finish as champions. We have looked much better and like the old us in the last few games which is great to see considering the bad run of games we had. The transfer window closed and we didn’t bring anyone else in but a couple of players have been sold since then and the one big transfer is Tammy Abraham potentially leaving to join LA Galaxy for 7 million and the only reason hes being sold is he came to my office and told me he wanted to leave and asked if I would let him go and I agreed and that he would get more game time somewhere else.
Sheffield Wednesday – Home – League – 1st V 3rd
We open the scoring in the 20th minute when Ponce robs the ball on the edge of his own area and hits it route one up to Armstrong to curl it past the keeper. Armstrong doubles our lead and his goals for the day seconds in to the second half after a one two with Ponce and places it in to the corner. They pull one back with Barrow beating the keeper at the near post from a very tight angle. We win a penalty just before the hour mark and McCormack steps up and smashes it past the keeper.
Tranmere – Away – League – 18th V 1st
A dull game in terms of highlights but a dominant one for us stats wise and a game where Tranmere offered nothing in terms of a threat to our goal. It was a dull game apart from the 22nd minute when they only goal of the came. The goal came when Alexander-Arnold beats a defender and squares the ball to Armstrong on the 6 yard line to tap home and get the 3 points against our old club.
Preston – Home – League – 1st V 19th
Lewis Cook breaks the deadlock when a ball put in to the area from Tymon is headed out and Cook drills it first time past the keeper and in to the bottom left corner. We double our lead when Cook plays a ball over the top to Abraham after their defender misses the ball and Tammy tucks it past the keeper. Another comfortable game and continuing picking up 3 points.
Reading – Away – League – 10th V 1st
A tight game was changed early in the second half . We take the lead when Alexander-Arnold breaks away down the right before whipping a ball into Armstrong to head home. Reading equalise a few minutes later when Stepinski puts a ball in to the back post for Williams to tuck in unmarked. We retake the lead with Abraham slots the ball under the keeper after Hendrick squares the ball to him just inside the area. Onomah makes it three with a lovely solo run in to the area before side footing it into the bottom corner. Abraham makes it four when the keeper doesn’t come for the ball and pokes it past him. We go down to ten men late on when Gibson gets a second yellow but the points were already ours.
Nottingham Forest – Home – League – 1st V 16th
Nottingham Forest take the lead early on after an awful mistake from us when Adarabioyo heads the ball back to no one and Assombalonga robs the ball to round the keeper and roll it home. We get the equaliser when Belhanda picks out Hendrick on the edge of the area from a corner and fires it in to the top corner. We get the winner late on after their keeper spills a cross in to the feet of McCormack to roll home.
Brentford – Away – League – 9th V 1st
We take the lead in a tight first half when Walker-Peters plays a low ball across the goal and Armstrong slides in to poke it home. Brentford pull level when Hogan beats his defender and gets on the end of a cross to head past Silvestri at his near post. Brentford go in front when again Hogan beats a defender and smashes it past the keeper from the corner of the area. We get the equaliser when their defender miss times a header leaving Armstrong one v one with the keeper and tucks it under him. We take the lead late on after a powerful shot from Sakor smacks the back of Dean and flies in to the back of the net.
So close yet so far away! We have eight games to go from being crowned champions of the league and being promoted in to the Premier League for next season. We have looked a quality side for the majority of the season and fully deserve going up BUT we could still bottle it and not get promotion which is a risk I am not willing to take so we will take it one game at a time. We had youth intake day which was shocking and we only had one decent player coming out of it who may get in to the first team. Adam Armstrong has been a class above since coming in and in terms of goals and has really helped us kick on and secure our place in the league.
