Season 4 – End Of The Season

Alright lads,

We are coming to the end of the season with only eight games to go and we have a strong chance to be champions and we could do it sooner rather than later if we win the next couple of games. One player who has left is Tammy who has gone to America and we may live to regret that but Armstrong has come in and done a much better job in a shorter time. Hopefully we can wrap up the league in the next couple of games so we can relax just that little bit more. With the season coming to an end we have been scouting players and spoke to a few regarding joining for next season. Can we win the league or will we bottle it..?

Bristol City – Home – League – 1st V 5th

A dominant but poor performance from us in terms of being able to break the deadlock despite having a number of good chances to get the win. Bristol came to defend and did very well to keep us out for 90 minutes. Our best chances of the game from a corner when a header from Wright gets cleared off the line and Cook hitting the woodwork from the edge of the area.

Ipswich – Away – League – 7th V 1st

A much better performance than last game and we did manage to get a goal which turned out to be the only goal of the game. We made a great start and Hendrick gets our goal when the ball is played out wide to Tymon who cuts inside and fires it past the keeper. Another game where we missed a number of chances to wrap up the win which isn’t like us usually so I am hoping that will soon change.

Wycombe – Home – League – 1st V 22nd

We take a well deserved in the second half after we kept knocking at the door in the first half. We get the goal just after the half hour mark when Sakor has a shot saved from inside the area and he follows it up to tap it past the keeper. We concede a penalty late on when Gibson pulls Akilu’s shirt and Akilu scores by putting it in to the top corner and takes a share of the points.

Aston Villa – Away – League – 7th V 1st

They take the lead when a cross is put in to the front post and Bunz is free to head past the keeper. We get the equaliser in the second half after the ball falls to Armstrong in the area and curls it in to the far corner. We turn the game around and take the lead in injury time when Gray plays Armstrong in on goal to tuck past the keeper.

MK Dons – Home – League – 1st V 24th

We get the opening goal when Armstrong scores from the tightest of angles past the keeper with a side footed effort. We win a penalty shortly before half time when King was pushed over and Alexander-Arnold steps up and fires it in to the bottom corner. Hendrick gets our third to put the game to bed when a corner causes a scramble in the area and Hendrick pokes it home. MK Dons do pull one back with a headed finish from a corner but it wasn’t enough.

Brighton – Away – League – 19th V 1st

A dominant first half performance and we take the lead just after the 30th minute. Our goal came from Hendrick when he plays a one two with Olomola and drills it along the floor in to the corner. We win a penalty when Olomola is pushed over but the keeper saves Armstrong’s shot. He makes up for his penalty miss when he gets on the end of a Alexander-Arnold cross to flick it in at the near post. Brighton pull one back with an effort from 20 yards flying in to the top corner with the keeper getting a slight hand to it. We make it three when Armstrong squares it to Ponce to curl in from the edge of the area.

Cardiff – Home – League – 1st V 6th

We take the lead early in the second half which turns out to be the only goal of the game when Olomola gets the ball up and over the wall and puts his free kick in to the top corner. Cardiff had a chance to come away with a share of the points but Grigg misses an open goal late on. We also gave debuts to Ball and Byram who both played well.

Fulham – Away – League – 2nd V 1st

Fulham take the lead with a low ball put in to the area and Avenatti is there to tap it home by putting it through the keepers legs. We wasn’t behind for long when Ponce beats his defender and smashes it in to the back of the net. Hendrick puts us in front when the ball is headed clear from a cross and he volleys it in to the top corner from 25 yards. They go down to ten men after Johansen gets a second yellow for a late tackle and we see out the game.

CHAMPIONS! We won the league comfortably in the end despite poor games against Bristol and Wycombe with us looking average and dropping points. We had a tough final few games but we won all of our last five games to end on a high. We dominate nearly every game we play but we do lack that clinical finishing in some games which does get frustrating but were the best team on the whole in the league and deserve to get promotion. We have agreed to sign a few players who I will show below and I feel they will improve the squad and give us a better chance of surviving in the Premier League next season. We have to buy smart this summer as it is going to be a massive test next season playing against some of the best teams in the world.

We have so far signed 6 players who are of a better quality than we already have at the club. We may have overpaid for an aging Mignolet but he has Premier League experience and should be good enough for us for another year or two. I am also pleased to get Ferri and Ntcham in for fairly cheap after we had been tracking them for months trying to persuade them to join us which they eventually did.

Tough Times

Alright and welcome back to our life at Leeds as we continue to fight for promotion in to the Premier League. We are coming up to the Christmas period over the next few weeks which means games coming thick and fast as well as the transfer window is opening and we may look in to using that to bring a player or two. A couple of players are slowly coming back from injury which is much needed as we have missed players like Belhanda. We do have some tough games coming up in the next few games and we need to try and pick up as many points as we can with dropping enough to lose top spot or ground on top spot.

Hull – Home – League – 1st V 9th

Hull get the perfect start when Hernandez gives them the lead in the first minute when he gets on the end of a cross at the near post to tap past the keeper. We pull level when Abraham is free in the area to head past the keeper. We turn the game around and take the lead when Sakor heads a corner back across the area for Wright to head in at the back post. We get a third early in the second half when Ponce curls it home in to the bottom corner.

Fulham – Home – League – 1st V 2nd

A dull game from start to finish with both teams cancelling each other. We were the better team and Fulham came to defend for 90 minutes and they defended brilliantly as well their keeper Garratt being in form and saving everything that came at him. The best chance of the game was from us when Hendrick plays the ball to Abraham just inside the area who beats a defender and fires the ball to the top corner but Garratt gets a finger on it to tip it over.

Cardiff – Away – League – 4th V 1st

Cardiff take the lead when Sio gets on the end of a cross to head past Silvestri who gets a slight hand to it. We equalise early in the second half when a cross in to the area causes a scramble before the ball falls to Ponce who smashes it past the keeper. Cardiff retake the lead when they play a short free kick to Gunnarsson and our keeper comes to dive on the ball but instead stands there for Gunnarsson to curl the ball round him. Lewis cook gets our second with a worldie when a free kick gets headed out to Cook who volleys it in from 30 yards with the ball smashing the underside of the bar on the way in. Cardiff get the winner when Adarabioyo heads the ball back to no one and Sio poaches the ball and rounds the keeper to roll it home.

QPR – Away – League – 6th V 1st

A good performance from us and we did everything but score against QPR who sucker punched us with the only goal of the game. They take the lead in the second half after a shot from Barrett takes a deflection and beats the keeper to get the 3 points. Another really frustrating game as we dominate most of the game and come away with nothing.

Norwich – Away – FA Cup 3rd Round

We take the lead when Ayling plays Ponce in to slide the ball past the keeper at his near post. Hendrick doubles our lead when Onomah squares the ball to him in the area with the keeper wrong footed and falling to the floor leaving an open goal for him to fire home. Norwich pull one back after they counter and whip the ball in to Gigliotti who is open in the area to tuck home. We throw away the lead when Gigliotti scores a second after he is one v one and puts it under the keeper. Norwich get the winner when Gigliotti gets his hat trick when he fires in to the top corner from the edge of the area.

Coventry – Away – League – 23rd V 2nd

We open the scoring just before half time when Alexander-Arnold crosses a low ball in to Belhanda on the edge of the area who curls it first time in to the bottom corner. Coventry equalise minutes in to the second half when a corner isn’t cleared and is headed in from Mavididi inside the 6 yard area. We retake the lead a minute later when Baines curls a free kick around the wall and in to the top corner. They equalise again when Anderson makes a late run in to the area and tucks home an Appleyard cross. We get a third when Belhanda plays Baines in on goal and bends it round a couple of players and in to the goal. Coventry equalise again and get a share of the points when Mavididi is free in the area to fire past the keeper.

We have had some really frustrating games recently and lost a lot of points from good positions which isn’t good enough if we want to continue to do well and try and get that promotion we all want. The games against Cardiff, Coventry and the cup game against Norwich were the ones that annoyed me the most as we should of won at least two of them especially as we were two nil up against Norwich and bottled it massively. We have looked so good all season and I hope this recent trend of bad results isn’t something which is going to continue for a while and we can turn it around and get back to winning ways. We have been looking at changing up the tactic to a 4231 which we may use in the next couple of games. I may also look to bring another update out in the week so we can try and get this season over with a bit quicker.

Early Promotion Contenders?

Alright lads,

We kick off the season in today’s update with a very different looking side to what we saw in the final game of last season. I am quietly confident we can have a good season as the squad is stronger and good enough to compete at the top. We have brought in some more players since the last update to help boost the squad and in positions in which we lacked. Let’s hope we can get off to a good start and kick on from there.

Hull – Away – League – 12th V 14th

A dull opening 40 minutes until Wood breaks the deadlock when he receives the ball from Sakor in the area and drills it in to the bottom corner. We double our lead when Olomola gets a goal on his debut. A ball in to the area gets headed down by Wood for Olomola to side foot past the keeper. Hull get one back after a shot from Hernandez cannons off the post and hits the back of our keeper and rolls in.

Oldham – Away – EFL Cup 1st Round

We dominated the game from the start but it wasn’t until extra time that we got the breakthrough goal. McCormack plays Abraham in who flicks it to Olomla to fire past the keeper. We win a penalty late in the first half of extra time, Baines steps up and puts it into the top corner. Oldham get a goal back when Dudley runs in at the near post and taps it past the keeper. Oldham get the equaliser when a header from a corner hits the bar and Lennon is there to head in. We win the game on penalties.

QPR – Home – League – 9th V 1st

A poor start from us as QPR take the lead inside the first couple of minutes. The ball is played across the area to Vokes who tucks it in to the bottom corner. A game where we couldn’t get anything going and we had a golden chance to take a share of the points in the final dew minutes but Abraham smashes it over the bar.

Coventry – Home – League – 14th V 20th

We get the opening goal when Belhanda picks up the ball before beating two defenders on the edge of the area and curls it past the keeper. We get a second goal a few minutes later when Baines whips a ball in and Wood gets on the end of it to head past the keeper. Wright gets our third when he heads in at the near post from a free kick.

Sunderland – Away – League – 7th V 4th

A slow start out of the blocks meant Sunderland could open the scoring early when Fraser beats his man down the wing and crosses to Wilson in the area to smash past the keeper. Belhanda gets our equaliser in the 20th minute when he runs in to the box and slots it in to the bottom corner. We take the lead when a shot from Belhanda takes a deflection and falls to Alexander-Arnold who fires it in to the far corner. We get a third before half time after Olomola lays the ball off to O’Kane who tucks it past the keeper. We get a fourth just before half time when Wood plays the ball out wide to Alexander-Arnold who whips the ball in low for Olomola to tap in at the near post. We get a fifth late on when a free kick is played short to Hendrick who puts it along the 6 yard line to Gibson to slide in at the back post.

Blackburn – Home – EFL Cup 2nd Round

We get the only goal of the game when Ponce runs down the right and whips the ball in to a late running Wood who side foots it under the keeper. A solid performance from the boys saw out the game as we progress further in the cup.

We have started the season well and currently sit second behind an unbeaten Sheffield Wednesday. It is early in the season but we are looking good and are continuing our tradition of dominating most of our games. We have brought in a couple of wingers as back up (Ince is better than a back up player I know) as we have been training on a 4231 over pre season and it has been successful. It was disappointing to lose to QPR who are an average side but they were the better team on the day and we move on and continue to improve. We have some tough games coming up in the next update as we play most of the teams around us. It’s good to see Tranmere have started the season well and hopefully they will survive after they have beat us twice!

Relegation?

Welcome back to the final run of games before the seasons ends and there is a strong possibility that we could be relegated. We have looked good but we haven’t picked up the points that we have needed to be safe of relegation. We have some games coming up that we should hopefully be able to pick up points from. I have faith in the boys to keep us up and we can go again next season after a summer of making the squad our own. We did manage to bring in a player on the free transfer deadline day which I am very pleased with as he is far to good for us.

Derby – Home – League – 21st V 12th

A bore draw against our old side. A game we dominated from start to finish but we just couldn’t get the breakthrough and come away with the 3 points. We had the best chance of the game to win it when Skuse missed an open goal mid way in the second half.

derby table

Huddersfield – Away – League – 5th V 21st

Huddersfield take the lead in the first minute after a free kick in to the area gets knocked down and Williams volleys in in to the back of the net. We go down to 10 men when Skuse gets sent off for a two footed tackle from behind. Ayling gets a second yellow for shirt pulling meaning we ended the game with 9 men.

huddersfield table

Nottingham Forest – Away – League – 11th V 21st

A tight game with Forest breaking the deadlock in the second half when put a ball is put  in to the area and Assombolonga runs in at the near post and taps it in. He gets a second when they break and hes one v one with the keeper and slides it under him. We have a man sent off again when Paredes gets a second yellow for a silly tackle in their half.

Cardiff – Home – League – 21st V 14th

Ayling gets our third after he stayed up for a corner and the ball gets put back in to the area and hes there to power it home.

Swansea get the opening goal in a pretty even game when Tabanou beats his man and crosses to Dack who runs in front of his defender and diverts the ball in to the back of the net. We get the equaliser when we play a corner short to Brattan who is on the edge of the 6 yard box to curl it through a group of players and in to the top corner.

We get the breakthrough when Phillips fires a rocket in to the top corner from 30 yards. Anotonsson makes it two when he rounds the keeper and rolls it home. Wigan – Away – League – 24th V 18th

Wigan take advantage of our poor performance when they get the only goal of the game when a free kick is deflected and falls to Byrne to tuck past the keeper at his near post. We had no reply to Wigan who defended brilliantly and looked better than where the league says they were.

Hull – home – League – 18th V 4th

Hernandez steps up and fires in the only goal of the game in to the bottom corner with our keeper getting a hand to it on the way in. End Of Season

end of season

stats

We survived and quite comfortably after we picked up a little bit of form towards the end which proves that we are a good team and after a few tweaks we are scoring more freely now and look a solid team and hopefully we can build on our squad over the summer with some fringe players already leaving we should hopefully be able to challenge for a top 6 spot. I am quietly confident we will have a good season next season and as I say with the right additions we will have strong side to compete for the top 6. It took us a while to turn the season around but we did manage to win 4 of our last 10 and get draws along with them which isn’t that bad considering we was losing every week when we first took over. I can’t see us being sacked despite not finishing as high as we would of liked so we will look to build without the fear of being sacked as the Leeds manager which we all know managers at Leeds don’t last long! Part of me regrets leaving Tranmere but that is in the past and we have to keep on looking forward and improving to be where we want which is the Premier League. Thanks for reading and let’s hope we have a better season with us in charge for all of next season!
