Season 3 – Getting Tight!

I’M BACK!!

Sorry for the lack of blog updates for around a month but we are back and going to get the season finished in the next couple of updates! We have the January transfer window coming up so we may look to bring in a couple of players and get rid of some of the ones that won’t feature as much or are unhappy which I don’t want in this club. We are still in and around the play offs and hopefully come the end of the season we can secure a spot in there and get promoted via the play offs..

January

Transfers

Frenkie De Jong – £5 Million. We needed a new midfielder as we had agreed to sell Westwood before the window and he was unhappy at Ajax.

Karl Darlow – £950k. Karl comes in to challenge Marshall as he has been having a few poor games and Gunn hasn’t really shown why he should be number one either but we now have 3 solid keepers for this league.

Jares Okore – Loan. An old FM legend! Centre back is a position we have lacked a little bit over the first half of the season and with Kalas being sold we have brought him in on loan till the end of the season.

Bobby Reid – £2 Million. A DoF signing and £2 mill for Bobby seems a good deal. He can either play in behind the striker which is where he will mostly play but he can also play up front should we need him (I believe he has been for Bristol IRL?).

Adam Armstrong – £925k. A player I love on FM an more times than not you can rely on to bang goals in and for £925k is a bit of a bargain. If it doesn’t work out then we can soon move him on.

Cyrus Christie – £3.1 Million. Another play I love to sign on FM and is usually my main right back on most of my saves. Can always rely on him to perform well and will get up and down the right side easily.

Jordan Graham – £3.5 Million. A deadline day signing but a player we had been following for a while but couldn’t agree a fee. Jordan has plenty of pace and can play on either wing which is another place a player hasn’t really made his own.

The outgoings in the window were – Westwood to Sunderland – £3.5 Million, Kalas to Middlesbrough – £6.5 rising to 9.5 Million, Toral to Tenerife – Loan, Irvine to Toulouse £2.7 Million and Fredericks to Sunderland – £775k as well as a few youngsters going out on loan to hopefully get game time to help continue their development.

Sheffield Wednesday – Home – Championship – 5th V 6th

A good first half from us and we should have taken the lead after we had a couple of golden chances from Adelaide at a corner and then hitting the post. Sheffield Wednesday had a chance to sucker punch us and get the win with a counter from our corner but Rhodes misses an open goal from a couple of yards out.

West Brom – Home – FA Cup 3rd Round

A disappointing start as West Brom go in front early on when Leko sprints down the right and pulls the ball back to Rondon to tap in in at the front post. They get a second when Rondon knocks a corner down to Veltman to side foot in to the bottom corner. Our cup run looks over as Rondon gets his second minutes later after Rodriguez heads a cross down to him to poke under the keeper. We manage to get a foot in the game when Grujic finds Adelaide on the edge of the area and he turns on the spot and fires it in to the top corner. We get a second late in the first half when a low cross from Woodburn finds Terrazzino open to tuck under the keeper. We pushed players forward to try and get an equaliser but Rondon punishes us when he gets his hat trick after Burke beats two players and rolls it to Rondon in the area to tap in.

Derby – Away – Championship – 7th V 3rd

A tough game against play off contenders Derby. We started the game better and had a golden chance to take the lead from the penalty spot but Hernandez steps up and hits it straight at Carson. A couple of minutes later and Derby punish our penalty miss as Vydra plays a one two and tucks the ball under the keeper. Vydra gets his second soon after when Marshall can’t control a back pass leaving the goal wide open for him to roll the ball in to. We get a goal of our own when a free kick is headed clear to Henriksen on the edge of the area and smashes a volley perfectly in to the top corner. Derby end the first half with 10 men as Lowe is shown a second yellow for a tackle from behind.

Everton – Home – Championship – 6th V 1st

We get the perfect start against the champions elect as Woodburn gives us an early lead. The goal comes when Seuntjens plays a ball out wide to Woodburn who cuts inside and fires past the keeper at the near post. Adelaide doubles our lead when a corner is played to Grujic on the edge of the area who slides him in on goal to side foot past the keeper. Bakambu gets Everton’s first goal as he powers a header home a cross at the front post. Everton pull level when Fraser whips a low ball in to the 6 yard box for Onyekuru to poke in. Woodburn puts us back in front as he gets on the end of a cross and heads the ball in off the underside of the crossbar. Everton level the game again early in the second half as Bakambu is played in one v one with the keeper and he slots it under Marshall. Our day is made harder when we go down to ten men after Mazuch is shown a second yellow for a poor tackle. Onyekuru turns the game around and puts Everton in front when he uses his pace to get away from the defence and calmly curls it in to the bottom corner. He then gets his hat trick when it’s a two v one and Bakambu squares to him for him to tap in.

QPR – Away – Championship – 19th V 6th

A shit performance from start to finish away at QPR who we should be beating but we created hardly anything. They take a deserved lead in the second half when the ball is played over the top to Scowen in the area who takes a touch and fires it past Marshall in to the far corner. A few minutes later we have a great chance of equalising when we win a penalty and Woodburn steps up and puts it in to the top left corner. QPR end the game with ten men when Bidwell is sent off for a late tackle.

Middlesbrough – Away – Championship – 2nd V 6th

We take an early lead when a corner is played to Ferri on the edge of the area and his shot deflects to Seuntjens to poke it past the keeper. Traore caused problems for our defence all game and he set up a goal when his cross is knocked down to Boateng to fire past Darlow from a couple of yards. We retake the lead when Hernandez gets to the byline and puts a low ball across the goal for Woodburn to tap in at the back post.

Fulham – Home – Championship – 6th V 4th

We take a deserved lead against Fulham after we break away down the right side before Adomah squares it to Woodburn in the area side foot past it past the keeper. Fulham are back on level terms before half time when Ayite fires a ball up to Mavididi who takes a touch and smashes it low past Darlow. Fulham turn the game around and take the lead in injury time when a hopeful ball in to the area falls to Wallace to fire past Darlow. Graham gives us a share of the points on his debut when Hernandez switches the ball to him out wide before he cuts in to the area and fires across the keeper.

Peterborough – Home – Championship – 7th V 22nd

We started slowly against a poor Peterborough side but we finally opened the scoring in the 20th minute. The opening goal comes after a poor clearance from their defender falls to Graham’s feet to tap in past the keeper. Graham is involved in our second as he puts a low ball across the goal for Hernandez to slide in and poke it past the keeper. Straight from their kick off we get a third as we rob the ball and switch it out wide to Kingsley who puts a deep cross to Graham at the back post to head home. Peterborough pull a goal back before half time when a route one clearance finds Marriott in loads of space near the penalty area and he has time to calmly tuck it under Darlow. Peterborough get a second early in the second half when a corner finds Baldwin at the back post and he heads the ball back across the goal in to the far corner. We win a penalty when Hernandez is hacked down from behind and he gets up and places it in to the bottom left for his second of the game.

Ipswich – Home – Championship – 6th V 14th

A strong start to the game from us as we have a good five or six good chances to take the lead in the first couple of minutes. We do take the lead late in the first half when Woodburn beats the defender and gets to the byline before pulling it back to Graham but his shot is deflected to Hernandez to fire past the keeper. Ipswich get a share of the points late in the game as Sacko uses his pace to beat his defender before putting a cross in to Nketiah to head in off the crossbar.

Brentford – Away – Championship – 5th V 7th

Play off contenders Brentford get the first goal of the game after sloppy defending leaves Weimann open in the penalty area to tap in a ball from Fischer. We are back on level terms when a route one ball is knocked down by Graham to Hernandez who drills his shot in to the bottom corner. Celina puts Brentford back in front late on after he goes on a ‘Messi-esque’ solo run beating 3/4 players before firing across the keeper in to the far corner. Fischer secures the win for them as he is left open at the back post to side foot past the keeper.

Blackburn – Away – Championship – 23rd V 7th

A poor performance but we still managed to score five past a struggling Blackburn side down in a relegation fight. Our first goal comes from Marshall with a route one ball which bounces over the defence leaving Hernandez in on goal to slot past the keeper. We double our lead straight from their kick off when Adelaide beats his defender for pace before whipping a ball in to Hernandez to head the ball past the keeper. Hernandez gets his hat trick and again Adelaide sets him up with a low ball to the front post and scores with a first time shot. Adelaide makes it for when a corner finds him on the edge of the area and he takes a touch and curls it in to the far corner. Samuel pulls one back for Blackburn when he is played in on goal and he uses his pace to get to the ball and tuck it under the keeper.Hernandez makes it five late on when he turns his defender on the edge of the area and drills the ball in to the bottom corner. Blackburn get a second of the game when they get penalty in the final few minutes which Morris fires in to the bottom left corner.

We are in to the final few games and we still have a good chance of finishing in the play offs after we slipped out with some poor results against teams around us. I feel we did well in the transfer window with the players coming in as well as getting rid of players who wasn’t getting game time for a bit of money and seeing Fredericks leave who was unhappy and causing trouble despite being our first choice right back! None of our remaining games are going to be easy and we need to hope teams around us drop points and we turn draws in to wins to keep us in touching reach of the play offs as we have dropped far to many points in the recent months. We have also had our youth intake which we all look forward to and this years was pretty awful and Brad Smith is the only player with decent potential.

Season 2 – December & January

Welcome back as we continue to be near the top of the table and we have got a chance of a cup run or two. This is a double month update with the Christmas period and the January transfer window (we didn’t do much business in). We did bring a keeper in before the transfer window opened as the ones we had wasn’t performing and they kept costing us goals and points so we signed Mark Oxley who is better than what we had and we have looked much better.

December

Newport – Home – League – 2nd V 9th

We take an early lead when Green flicks a cross on to Abreu to tap in at the back post. Our lead doesn’t last long as Newport score when a shot from Ovenden goes straight through Davies’s hands. We retake the lead a minute later as Norburn slides the ball in to Green and pokes the ball past the keeper at his near post. Abreu gets his second of the game when he powers home a header from a corner. An early red card in the second half for Newport with a two footed tackle from Labadie who had not long been booked. They do get a second despite being a man down when the ball is flicked on to Ovenden to take a touch and fire low past Davies. Abreu gets his hat trick after De Girolamo whips a ball in from the byline for him to tuck home at the near post. De Girolmao gets a goal of his own late on when he volleys a cross from Vyner in to the top corner.

MK Dons – Away – FA Cup 2nd Round

Our FA Cup run comes to an end against MK Dons and we really should of got more out of this game. MK Dons take the lead in the first minute when Sow gets to the ball first and heads in to an empty goal. We get on level terms before half time when Green loses his defender and gets on the end of an Abreu cross to slot past the keeper. MK Dons again score early in the second half when a shot from Nesbitt hits the post and rebounds off the back of Davies. We had the chance to equalise late on when a shot from Oakley-Boothe crashes off the bar and it gets cleared.

Lincoln – Home – Checkatrade Trophy 2nd Round

We finally manage to take the lead late in the second half in what was a one sided game. The first goal comes after Wordsworth plays a ball over the top to Abreu to round the keeper and roll the ball in to an empty goal. Wallace doubles our lead in injury time to finish off the game when their defender misses the ball leaving him one v one with the keeper and slides it under him.

Chesterfield – Away – League – 11th V 2nd

Abreu puts us in front when he heads home a cross in to the far corner from Vyner. We double our lead in the second half when a corner falls to Grandison to poke past the keeper. Abreu gets his second of the game when he pulls away from his marker and volleys past the keeper. We had injuries in this game to McDonnell and Dunn and both were out for a couple of weeks.

Exeter – Home – League – 1st V 5th

Exeter get off to the better start when Stockley gives them the lead. The ball is cleared but to their player who puts it back in to the box for Stockley to head home. We pull level when Vyner plays a long low ball to Abreu who squeezes his shot past the keeper at his near post. Exeter then retake the lead when Reid pulls it back across the box for Stockley to fire home. We equalise again when Wordsworth picks the ball up on the edge of the area and drives it in to the top corner.

Yeovil – Away – League – 8th V 1st

We take the lead in what was a tight opening to the game. The ball is whipped in to the box by Vyner and the defender misses it leaving Green free to head in at the back post. We get a second minutes later when Oakley-Boothe drills the ball in to the bottom corner from the corner of the area. Yeovil get a foot in the game when a corner falls to Bailey who fires it through a group of players and in to the bottom corner.

Wycombe – Away – League – 24th V 1st

A very one sided game against a struggling Wycombe side and we should really of won by a bigger score line. We win a penalty early in the second half which Wordsworth fires straight at the keeper but reacts quickest to score at the second attempt.

Transfers

Anton Walkes – Free Transfer

Rhian Brewster – Loan

Dean Marney – Free Transfer

Cambridge – Home – League – 1st V 7th

A good start from us as we take the lead inside 20 minutes thanks to Walker. Vyner gets to the byline and pulls the ball back to Walker on the penalty spot to tap in. Walker then turns provider minutes later when he a whips a ball in to the front post for Abreu to flick past the keeper. We get a third before half time when Abreu squares it to Walker and his shot is to powerful for the keeper to save it. We get an early goal in the second half when Norburn takes a shot from outside of the area and curls it in to the far post. We get a fifth of the game when Wallace miss hits a shot but the keeper misjudges the bounce and it goes in to the bottom corner. Cambridge get a consolation late on when Brown jumps highest and heads home from a corner.

Leyton Orient – Away – League – 21st V 1st

Devarn Green puts us in front early on with a looping header in to the far post from a cross. Green gets his second when he robs the ball off a defender and slots it under the keeper. Abreu gets our third in the second half when Gribbin pulls the ball back for him to drill home in to the bottom corner.

Barnet – Home – League – 1st V 14th

Devarn Green gets our opener seconds before half time when the keeper doesn’t catch a shot from Vyner and Green is there to tap in to an empty goal. Oakley-Boothe gets our second on the hour mark when the keeper punches the ball clear to him on the edge of the area and curls it in to the bottom corner.

Oldham – Home – Checkatrade Trophy 3rd Round

We get an early goal again when Abreu gets on the end of a cross and powers a header past the keeper. Gribbin gets our second goal when Norburn plays him in on goal and he calmly curls it in to the bottom corner. Our dominant performance sees us get a third before half time when Vyner gets the ball on the edge of the area and drives it across the keeper in to the far corner.

Lincoln – Away – League – 11th V 1st

A poor performance from us and the start of a slight two game blip in our good form. Lincoln win a penalty in the first half which Bostwick fires in to the top left corner to give them the lead. We win a penalty of our own late in the first half but McDonnell fires it straight down the middle at the keeper.

Accrington – Home – League – 1st V 13th

After us dominating the opening ten minutes Accrington take the lead with a rocket from outside the area from Billy Kee. Accrington then double their lead when they play a short free kick to Morton in the area and slots it past the keeper. We finally get in the game when Vyner cuts in from the right and fires it past the keeper at his near post.

Wigan – Home – Checkatrade Trophy Quarter Final

A very even game against a good Wigan side and we take the lead in injury time of what had been a quiet first half. The only goal of the game comes when Oakley-Boothe slides Abreu in on goal and fires it across the keeper. A good win and good to get back winning.

We are going in to the final few months with a serious chance of getting back to back promotions in what has been a weird season. I have no idea how we are performing so well this season and something has ‘clicked’ with the players and the tactic and it is working wonders for us and all the new signings this season have settled in well. I felt we didn’t really need to do much business in January but we did bring in Walkes as back up who can play in multiple positions, Marney in centre midfield and Brewster as a back up striker as the ones we have are not good enough. We did get rid of a couple of players in January in Luis Alberto (22k) and Grandison (33k) both of them just wasn’t performing well and made mistake after mistake every chance they had so we moved them on. A couple more have gone out on loan after we couldn’t find permanent transfers for them but they’ll be gone in the summer.

Season 2 – Cup Runs?

Welcome back and I know a few of you will probably want to know if Brighton approached us or not! Well we had an interview but in the end they chose someone else but since then we have had more offers coming mainly from Scotland and teams around us and also Aston Villa are interested. In the coming games we do have teams near the bottom who will be fighting for survival along with a FA Cup game and a Checkatrade trophy game against Wigan! Cup run anyone..? Or will our defence be terrified of Will Grigg..?

Plymouth – Home – League – 2nd V 16th

We dominated the opening 20 minutes having shot after shot but it was Plymouth who took the lead from an own goal. A cross from wide right hits Miller and goes in. We get the equaliser when Gribbin poaches the ball off Green and drives it across the keeper and in to the far corner. Abreu then gives us the lead minutes later after a corner is played short to Wallace and his shot deflects off Abreu at the front post. It doesn’t take long before Plymouth are level as a shot from Long on the edge of the area goes through Davies’s hands. Lee gets the winner late on when he gets the ball from a corner and fires it in to the bottom corner.

FC Halifax – Away – FA Cup First Round

We put out a fairly rotated side for our FA Cup game against Halifax. We open the scoring just after half hour when Norburn slides the ball between two defenders for Waring to tuck past the keeper. De Girolamo doubles our lead in injury time after their keeper spills a shot from Buxton in to the path of De Girolamo to tap in. A dominant win in the cup but could of really done with finishing the game off earlier in the game.

cup draw

Wigan – Away – Checkatrade Trophy

We get off to the perfect start when Gribbin puts us in front inside a minute. The goal comes after Oakley-Boothe squares the ball to Gribbin on the edge of the area and he drills it past the keeper. Will Grigg puts Wigan on level terms when he heads home a cross from Berry. Wigan then take the lead in the second half and it’s Grigg again when Dunkley plays a ball over the top and Grigg rounds the keeper and rolls it in. McDonnell gets our second with 5 minutes to go with a tap in at the back post from a corner. With the game being a draw it went to penalties which we won 4-1.

Notts County – Away – League – 11th V 2nd

Devarn Green puts us in front against the run of play as he runs across his defender and taps a Vyner cross in at the near post. Abreu doubles our lead just after half time when Wallace lays it off for him to curl it round the keeper and in to the back of the net. Green gets his second of the game when the keeper doesn’t come for the ball and he taps in to an empty net at the back post.

Forest Green – Home – League – 2nd V 18th

We go in front early on when Vyner follows up his first shot with a chip ball over the keeper to give us the lead. Forest Green equalise within minutes when we allow James to turn in the area and fires the ball in to the top corner. Walker puts us back in front when the ball falls to him after the keeper can only push a shot away and he pokes it home.

Crawley – Away – League – 23rd V 2nd

A really strange result as we were the better team but come away with a defeat. Green puts us in front after a mix up from their keeper and defender and Green robs the ball and tucks it in to an empty net. Abreu gets our second minutes later when Gribbin plays him in on goal and slides it under the keeper. Crawley pull one back when they play a short free kick to Plummer in the area and smashes it past the keeper. We concede a penalty which Doherty scores by putting it in to the roof of the net. They then take the lead late on when a cross is put in to McNerney to head home unmarked at the back post.

We are still fighting for promotion! What a season this is turning in to and I never thought in pre season we would be fighting for the title. We are also in to the next round of both the FA Cup (MK Dons) and the Checkatrade Trophy (Lincoln) so maybe we could go on a cup run in one of them which would be nice. Gribbin is still putting in some amazing performances and our main front three are all performing amazingly. I never knew what to expect from Abreu as his first season in English football. We are coming up to the Christmas period and then on to the January transfer window but I don’t think I will sign anyone unless someone is out injured for a long time or a player is available that would massively improve our side but we have limited transfer and wage budget.  The next update will be a bit of a longer one as I look to try and keep this journey going as I know a lot of people don’t like to read how we are struggling in League 2/1 for season after season as it would get boring. It was good to see Tyler Walker getting back on the score sheet, he has been hit and miss this season and I have left him out of the starting 11 most of the season as his performances have been shocking but hopefully he can kick on and get back to how he was last season.

Season 1 – FA Cup Day

We are top of the league but for how long as we keep flicking between first and second along with Leyton Orient as the boys are continuing to bang the goals in to keep us at the top fighting for the title. We have a massive FA Cup game coming up against Oxford at home and we have a chance of beating them and progressing in to the next round. We continue to come up against difficult teams in this league and we play teams around us along with our FA Cup game. I have been looking at a couple of players that we could potentially bring in as we lack depth in a couple of positions but we aren’t desperate enough to be forced in to signing anyone it has to be right for us.

Aldershot – Away – League – 13th V 1st

Jack Dunn gives us an early lead inside two minutes when McDonnell squares to Dunn on the edge of the area and his shot wrong foots the keeper after it takes a deflection off a defender and goes in to the back of the net. Aldershot equalise in the second half when a cross to Turner who is wide open at the far post is tucked under the keeper. A game of two halves and we pushed for a second goal but their keeper was on fire.

Hartlepool – Away – League – 9th V 2nd

We take an early lead again when Embleton plays it across the area to Green to slide it past the keeper at his near post. We double our lead seconds later from their kick off when McDonnell robs the ball and plays a long ball up to Green who pulls it back to Dunn to tap in to an empty net. We get a third after a corner is put in to the area and McEveley is there with a bullet header leaving the keeper no chance. Hartlepool do pull one back before half time when McLoughlin beats our defence for pace and rounds the keeper to tap home. They get a second straight from kick off in the second half in a comedy moment when Magloire falls on the ball in the area leaving Morris to fire past the keeper. We put the game to bed when Embleton curls a beautiful free kick in to the top corner.

FC Halifax – Home – League – 2nd V 18th

A dominant and deserved win and we really should of scored more than the one goal and Halifax didn’t manage a single shot on target all game. I thought we had taken the lead in the 20th minute but Waring was offside when he put the ball in the back of the net. We do finally get the goal in the 69th minute and it’s Green again when he beats the offside trap and slides it under the keeper to get the three points. We did lose Dunn again to injury and will be out for about a month.

Oxford – Home – FA Cup 1st Round

Jack Payne gives oxford the lead when a corner is cleared but only to Payne on the edge of the area as he curls it in to the top corner. We get a goal against the run of play when Waring dummies a ball to Green in to the area to fire home. We went a bit more attacking in the second half for a while and it paid off when Green puts us in front after Embleton plays him in on goal to slide through the keepers legs. Oxford equalise late on when a shot from Belaid from outside the area deflects off two players and flies in to the bottom corner. Oxford retake the lead when a cross to Payne is tapped home from 5 yards out. We shoot ourselves in the foot when McEveley passes the ball in to his own goal!

Dagenham & Redbridge – Home – League – 1st V 4th

A dominant performance and strong start from us as we have a number of good chances to take the lead but it wasn’t until the 25th minute when a goal did come. We win a penalty when Waring is pulled to the floor at a corner which Cole fires in to the top right corner. Green doubles our lead early in the second half when he cuts in from the right and fires it across the keeper and in to the far corner.

Gateshead – Away – League – 8th V 1st

Waring puts us in front early in the game when Buxton puts a cross in to the far post to Waring who takes and touch and drills it past the keeper. Embleton doubles our lead when a cross from Buxton is cleared to Embleton on the edge of the area to volley in to the top corner with the keeper getting a slight touch to it. We get a third when Green robs the ball off a defender before whipping it in to Waring to head home. Green gets a goal of his own in injury time when Norburn plays the ball over the top for Green to volley home. Gateshead get in the game more in the second half and finally get a goal with a header from a corner. They get a second when a poor ball out from defence leaves Langstaff one v one to tuck past the keeper.

We are still looking shaky at times in games but are more and more looking dominant in games and we look like a team that could beat anyone in this league. Drama in the FA Cup as usual as we looked like we would beat Oxford but we bottled it and conceded two goals late on and McEveley’s own goal was laughable when he passed the ball in to his own goal so was sad to be knocked out as we had every chance of beating them. We have also signed Embleton until the end of the season after he has impressed on loan and has seemed to of stepped up a gear in the last few games. We have a small gap on to Orient but they have a game in hand which could possibly close back up to being a point behind. I feel that if we do get promoted this year then we could quite easily be comfortable in League two and with the right signings who knows but there is along way to go before then!

Season 1 – Top Of The Table Clash

What a start we are having and our aim for promotion is still on course to be achieved. No game is easy in this league and we have one of the biggest games of our season coming up in a few games time against Leyton Orient which could possibly see us finish first or second come the end of the season. We also have an FA Cup game and we have been drawn at home to Blyth which is a winnable game and also a home tie to bring in a bit extra money.

Ebbsfleet – Away – League – 17th V 2nd

A poor first half from us until Waring opens the scoring. The goal comes after Buxton whips in an early ball in to the area and Waring stretches out a leg and pokes it past the keeper. Buxton turns goalscorer minutes later when he makes a run down the right before drilling it in to the bottom corner from 20 yards out. We give away a penalty in injury time after Magloire pulls a players shirt with Magri stepping up and firing it down the middle. A quiet second half with the little action in front of either goal saw us get the three points.

Wrexham – Home – Leageue – 1st V 8th

We open the scoring in a bizarre fashion when Devarn Green crosses the ball in to the area aiming for Waring but it misses everyone and goes in off the far post. We again concede a penalty in the first half which Boden smashes in to the roof of the net. Wrexham then take the lead against the run of play when Jennings curls a free kick in to the top corner. We do manage to get an equaliser minutes later when Embleton lays the ball off to Buxton who fires first time past the keeper at his near post. They retake the lead when we don’t deal with a corner and they have a free tap in. Pickard gives us a share of the points after Reckford runs down the left before squaring to Pickard who smashes it first time in to the back of the net.

Bromley – Away – League – 24th V 2nd

We take an early lead against bottom of the league Bromley when a free kick is knocked down by Green to Embleton who volleys it across the keeper and in to the far corner. We double our lead before half time when Dunn picks up a loose ball and plays Green in on goal to slide it under the keeper. A hard fought win against bottom of the league and we dug deep and got the deserved win.

Leyton Orient – Home – League – 2nd V 1st

One of our biggest games of the season against Leyton Orient and we started slowly and handed them an early advantage. Leyton Orient were the first to score from our own mistakes when McAnuff crosses from the right and Magloire tries to head it clear but instead heads it in to his own net. We pull level when a corner falls to Green at the back post to fire in to the roof of the net. We tried to get the winner and probably should have after we dominated the game but we take a share of the points and stay in touching distance of Orient.

Chester – Home – League – 2nd V 23rd

Devarn Green gives us the lead when a clearance hits one of our players and falls to Green in the area who side foots it home. Another game where we dominated and only scored one goal which is something we will look to work on in training. We did have a chance to get a second and the winner late on but Green’s volley smashes off the post and goes wide. Dunn got injured in this game and will be out for a couple of weeks with a groin injury.

Blyth – Home – FA Cup 4th Qualifying Round

We put out a strong side to ensure Blyth don’t cause an upset and we can get in to the next round. Our class shone from the get go and we take the lead just after 20 minutes and Waring gets it when Cawley plays him in on goal and tucks it under the keeper. Cawley then gets a goal of his own late on to secure the win with a worldie when he hits a volley from 30 yards out which flies in to the top corner.

After some tough games we continue to look good and have one defeat in our first 15 games. It is still so so close at the top of the table and we are only top by goal difference after our front three can’t stop scoring. A comfortable win against Blyth also sees us go through in to the first round of the FA Cup where we will play at home to League 1 Oxford. I am really enjoying this team as we have quality in every position with players fighting for positions and we always look like we can get a goal or two in every game. We will continue to keep pushing Orient in to mistake to help open up the gap at the top and a win against them would of been nice and we deserved it if you look at the stats but a draw isn’t as bad as it could of been.

Season 1 – Goals For Fun

We have had a great start getting four wins out of our first four games and beating teams easily and looking comfortable being at the top and the pressure that will continue to be put on us if we keep on winning. I feel we are still a player or two from a ‘perfect’ side but that is always the case as you always look to improve the side. If we can keep our front three fit and firing then I can see us having a strong chance of winning the league.

Elliot Embleton – 3 Month Loan

embleton - 3 months

A couple more players have joined the club in Cawley and Embleton. Kevin comes in to add competition to Dunn for the CAM position as Dunn was the only player comfortable in that position and Cawley has some very good stats for this level. I have also been retraining Larnell Cole to play in centre midfield which he has been and hasn’t played below a 7 which is a promising start. Elliot has also come in for 3 months more as a back up but we do get injures ans suspensions.

Eastleigh – Away – League – 2nd V 1st

An open end to end 30 minutes with both sides coming close to breaking the deadlock but it was us who take the lead shortly before the half hour mark. The goal comes when Dunn plays the ball to Green to run on to and fire across the keeper and in to the bottom corner. Eastleigh pull level when Yeates hits a long ball to Constable who drills it in to the top corner. Green puts us back in front just before half time when a shot from Dunn deflects off a defender and falls to Green to tuck past the keeper. We secure the win in injury time after Green whips a low ball to Waring at the near post who fires it against the post and it rebounds off Togwell and in to the back of the net.

Boreham Wood – Home – League – 1st V 17th

We take a deserved lead in the second half when Norburn puts a free kick in to the area and Magloire rises highest to head home past the keeper. We give away a penalty minutes later for a sloppy tackle and Andrade punishes us by putting it in to the top corner to get a share of the points.

Solihull – Away – League – 19th V 1st

We open the scoring after a shot from Green is going wide but Waring gets to it just in time and pokes in from a tight angle. We double our lead when Dunn plays the ball over the top to Green who volleys it in to the back of the net. Green makes it three when he beats the offside trap and fires it in to the top corner giving the keeper no chance. Solihull get in the game with a goal of their own when they play a short free kick in to the area before slotting it under the keeper. We get a fourth and it’s Green again after Dunn squares it to him inside the area to tuck home. We make it five late on when Magloire heads in at the back post from a corner.

Dover – Home – League – 1st V 12th

One of those games where nothing was going for us and it didn’t help when Fox was shown a straight red early in the game for a late challenge from behind. We continue to push for the goal despite being a man down but it was Dover who grabs the win and all three points when we can’t clear a corner and Daniel fires past the keeper.

Barrow – Home – League – 1st V 14th

We take an early lead when Reckford sprints down the left before pulling the ball back to Dunn inside the area to poke past the keeper. Waring gets our second when he gets on the end of a free kick from Embleton and heads home at the near post. Waring gets his second of the game after the ball is bouncing around in the area and he reacts quickest and fires in to the bottom corner. Green makes it four in injury time when he is open in the area from a free kick and heads past the keeper.

Maidenhead – Away – League – 3rd V 1st

Jack Dunn gives us an early lead after some lovely one touch passing around the area before Waring slides Dunn in to tuck under the keeper. Dunn gets a second with a worldie of goal when Green crosses from the right in to the area and he volleys it in to the top corner. Magloire makes it three when he beats the keeper with a looping header from a corner.

We continue our good run but the slim chance of an unbeaten season has come to an end after a slight slip up with the defeat to Dover which on another day wouldn’t of happened but we didn’t turn up and they did so fair play to them. Our main three of Waring, Green and Dunn are still playing out their skin and either bagging a goal or two a game or setting up the other to score. We have Leyton Orient coming up who are continuing to push us and match us game for game and that game could be a title deciding game if they also have a strong season. We also start our FA cup journey with a qualifying round with hopes of going on a run and maybe getting a big team at our place. Magloire is another player who has come in and done very well and has also contributed with a couple of goals and hopefully we can extend his loan till the end of the season.

Season 5 – Beginning Of The End

Let’s crack on with the season and look to continue on the good form until the end of the season. We did manage to bring in a couple of players who will play a back up role and we did also sell a couple of players who had hardly played to bring in extra money. This is the last but one update of the journey with the finale coming out tomorrow. Sad to leave the save as it has been fun and we have a much better journey than what I thought right at the start of the save!

Liverpool – Home – League – 5th V 6th

Liverpool are the first to score and it is Diego Costa who gets the goal when the ball is put in to the area and he heads it down past Mignolet. We get the equaliser when Ferri plays a long ball over the top to Maupay to round the keeper and roll it home. Liverpool get the winner late on after Belotti slides in and pokes the ball past Mignolet.

Watford – Home – League – 6th V 11th

We take an early lead when Maupay plays Ferri in to smash the ball past the keeper. We get a second of the game in a bizarre way after a shot from Olomola is dropped by the keeper in to his own goal. Ighalo pulls one back for Watford before half time with a side footed finish from an OSborn cross.

Newcastle – Away – League – 5th V 6th

Newcastle get the opening goal when a ball in to the area from Deulofeu hits Gomez and flies in to the back of the net. A couple of minutes later and we are back on level terms after Olomola robs the ball off Lascelles before crossing to Maupay who volleys it past the keeper. We take the lead on half time when Ntcham makes a driving run in to the area before slotting it between the keepers legs. Deulofeu pulls Newcastle level with 10 minutes to go with a lovely curling effort from outside the area. We do get a late winner when Christie whips the ball along the 6 yard line for Maupay to tap in.

Southampton – Home – League – 6th V 9th

Ntcham gives us the lead in the second half after an even first half to the match. The goal comes after Maupay picks up a loose ball and squares it to Ntcham to fire in at the near post. We get a second goal after Ntcham plays Maupay in on goal and smashes the ball home and it goes through the keepers hands.

Newcastle – Home – FA Cup 4th Round

It took until the second half until we saw some action and it came from Newcastle who took the lead. Ayoze Perez runs down the right before squaring it to Wijnaldum who is free in the area to fire home. We did everything we could to force a goal but it wasn’t enough from a slightly rotated side and we did deserve something from the game.

West Brom – Away – League – 18th V 5th

Olomola gets the only goal of the game in the 37th minute when a high cross in to the area is misjudged by Areola leaving Olomola to head in to an empty net. A good performance against a solid West Brom side who could of nicked a point when Rondon failed to score when one v one.

Crystal Palace – Home – League – 5th V 11th

Sakor gives us the lead and his first of the season when Olomola squares it to Sakor on the edge of the area to rifle it past the keeper. We get a second of the game when Gomez whips the ball in to the area for Maupay to head home past the keeper. Palace do get a goal back when a corner is headed on to Feddal at the back post to tap in.

Arsenal – Away – League – 3rd V 4th

We get the opening goal inside 10 minutes after Maupay plays Ntcham in to drive through the defence and fire the ball in to the bottom corner. We do get a second goal of the game and it came late on and we wrap up the points. Olomola crosses to Armstrong at the near post and fires across the keeper in to the far corner.

Manchester United – Home – League – 3rd V 1st

Manchester United get off to the perfect start when they score inside 30 seconds. Straight from kick off Coman runs down the right before whipping the ball in to Griezmann to flick the ball in at the near post. Christie concedes a penalty minutes later but Mignolet saves it by diving to his left. Griezmann does get his second goal a couple of minutes later when Alba sqaures the ball to him and he fires the ball past Mignolet. We get a penalty of our own early in the second half after Goretzka gets his second yellow and Ntcham fires it straight down the middle. We get the equaliser just after the hour mark when Armstrong pulls the ball back to Maupay to tuck it home past De Gea.

I don’t think we will be relegated this season like what everyone thought at the beginning of the season! What a crazy last couple of games where we finally beat Arsenal and got a share of the points against champions elect United after they made a flying start to the game before going down to 10 men. Despite our continued good form it is still so so close for the top 6/7 positions. I never thought we would still be this high up and competitive let alone beating teams like Chelsea and Arsenal! We did have the usual youth intake and as usual it was pretty rubbish which would looked to continue improving had we had time to carry on the journey.
