Hello and goodbye!
This is going to be the final blog update for Hull and for this save. I know I know you’re all really sad and are going to miss it… You can can always read it again lol. I may start another shorter blog save before FM19 if we don’t carry this one one but as of right now I don’t have the time to blog as I did due to real life getting in the way but we shall see. We are looking good for the final place in the playoffs if we can get a run going as we have teams we really should be getting 3 points from to help us towards our goal. Can we achieve it? Let’s crack on and find out…
MK Dons – Home – Championship – 7th V 22nd
A spanner in the works in the first half as Henriksen is shown a second yellow for a poor tackle from behind putting us down to ten men. Despite being a man light we do get the opening goal against struggling MK Dons. Christie whips an inch perfect ball on to Ferri’s head to head past the keeper at the near post. MK Dons equalise late on when Marshall drops to Agard who taps in to an empty net. They then turn the game around in injury time after they counter and Aneke is played in on goal and slots it into the bottom corner.
Aston Villa – Home – Championship – 7th V 12th
We get the perfect chance to take the lead midway in the first half after we win a penalty which Hernandez takes and tucks it into the bottom left corner. Davis gets Villa back on level terms when he intercepts a poor back pass and calmly rolls it past Marshall. We retake the lead early in the second half when a corner is knocked down to Graham to side foot it past the keeper. Grealish gets a share of the points for Villa when Hourihane lays the ball off to him on the edge of the area to fire it across the keeper and in to the far corner.
Sheffield United – Away – Championship – 13th V 8th
We take the lead inside 20 seconds when Graham beats two players for pace down the right before putting a low ball in to the front post for Hernandez but he doesn’t get a touch and the ball beats the keeper and goes in. Sheffield United are back on level terms when a ball into the area from Dummigan cannons off the back of Okore and wrong foots the keeper as we share the points.
Cardiff – Away – Championship – 11th V 8th
Graham puts us in front against the run of play in injury time of the first half. Goldaniga plays a ball out wide to Graham who controls it before he cuts inside beating a defender and firing it across the keeper. Ryan Kent gets Cardiff’s equaliser when a ball is put across the 6 yard box to Kent at the back post for an easy tap in. Bowen gets our second after Seuntjens slides him in on goal and calmly tucks it under the rushing keeper. Our lead doesn’t last long as Cardiff score again when Tomlin has time in the box to side foot home on the penalty spot. Seuntjens looked to get our potential winner when Bowen lays him off to drill in to the top corner from the edge of the area. Bowen secures the win in injury time after a route one ball is missed by the keeper after he came out of his box leaving Bowen free to score in to an empty goal.
Portsmouth – Home – Championship – 7th V 18th
A poor game from both sides as it turned in to one of the scrappiest games of our season at home to struggling Portsmouth. We do finally take one of our chances and take the lead with the only goal of the game. It comes from some good build play before Woodburn picks it up out wide and whips a low ball to the back post for Bowen to slide and poke it home.
Huddersfield – Away – Championship – 13th V 6th
The game looked to start bad as we concede a penalty inside the first 15 minutes but Marshall gets down to his left and pushes it away. Okore gets his first goal for the club with a bullet header when a free kick is put in to the far post to Okore who had a yard. Woodburn doubles our lead late in the game after beautiful one touch build up play before he lets fly on the edge of the area as it goes in to the top corner.
Bristol City – Away – Championship – 21st V 6th
A boring opening 20 minutes until Bowen scores to give us the lead. The goal comes when Woodburn runs down the left before putting a low ball in to the front post from the byline for Bowen to flick past the keeper. Bristol are back on level terms minutes before half time when a cross is put straight on to El Khayati’s head to head past Marshall. He doubles his tally when a poor header from Okore falls to him in the box and he fires it past Marshall at his near post. They kill the game off when they counter after we pushed players up and El Khayati squares to O’Dowda who has bags of time to tap in.
Birmingham – Home – Championship – 6th V 15th
We get the opening goal of the game in the 20th minute when a shot from Hernandez is pushed wide in to the path of Adelaide who takes a touch and tucks it home under the keeper. Calvert-Lewin equalises for Birmingham after the ball is switched to the right to Calvert-Lewin on the edge of the area as he controls it and rifles it past Marshall. Adelaide puts us back in front in injury time of the first half when Ferri plays a ball between two defenders for him to fire first time past Ruddy and in to the corner of the net. Ferri makes it three late on when Grujic knocks a ball down for him to curl in to the bottom corner.
Reading – Home – Championship – 6th V 10th
Reading get the opening goal when a corner is headed in at the front post by Choudhury (probably off his afro..). We have chance after chance to get the next goal but Reading double their lead in the second half. Popa sprints down the right before floating a ball to the back post and Bodvarsson is waiting to volley it home. Hernandez pulls a goal back after quick build up play and Graham plays him in on goal and he slots it under the keeper. Despite being down to ten men after Kingsley gets injured we are awarded a penalty to get back on level terms. Hernandez steps up to take the penalty and drills it in to the bottom right corner. Hernandez then gets his hat trick when Graham beats a defender for pace and pulls the ball back to Hernandez in the box to side foot home. The lead doesn’t last long when a free kick is played short to Popa who has a shot which takes a deflection to wrong foot the keeper.
Barnsley – Home – Championship – 6th V 5th
We take a deserved lead against Barnsley just after 20 minutes when Hernandez makes a run to the front post to tap in a cross from Adelaide. He gets his second of the game after a first time pass from Woodburn to put him in the box and tuck it in to the bottom corner. Adelaide makes it three late on when Okore nods a ball down for him to drill the ball past the keeper from a couple of yards out.
Preston – Away – Championship – 22nd V 6th
A poor performance from us in front of goal as we could only manage a draw against relegated Preston. We do take the lead against Preston inside ten minutes after McCarthy spills a shot from Hernandez and Adelaide reacts quickest for a tap in. Preston get the equaliser and a share of the points when the ball is knocked down for Hugill to take a touch and score a beautiful curling shot from outside of the area.
Brighton – Home – Championship – 6th V 9th
With the playoffs confirmed we decided to play a couple of players who haven’t featured much this season. Graham puts us in front early on when he gets in to the box and fries it past the keeper at his near post. Brighton manage to get an equaliser early in the second half after Wilson is unmarked in the box giving him time to turn and fire first time in to the top corner.
Sheffield Wednesday – Home – Playoff Semi Final First Leg
We take a crucial lead in the first leg of the playoff semi finals against Sheffield Wednesday. Our first goal of the game comes when Hernandez squares the ball to Seuntjens in the area and he drills the ball past the keeper. Bowen doubles the lead late on when Henriksen plays the ball out wide to him before he cuts inside and curls it past the keeper and in to the far corner.
Sheffield Wednesday – Away – Playoff Semi Final Second Leg
We get the opening goal in the second half in what was a crazy and tough game from the beginning at Hillsborough. Hernandez is the man to get the goal after the ball is played out wide to Bowen who drills a low ball back in to the box for Hernandez to poke home. Wednesday equalise minutes later when Gallagher beats our defence and fires the ball across the keeper. They then get a second when Gallagher puts a deep ball in to the back post to Gyokeres who taps it past Marshall. Gallagher then gets his second of the game when he heads in a cross from the underside of the crossbar. Bowen gets our second goal minutes in to extra time with a bullet header at the back post from a Mings cross. We go down to ten men when Ferri is shown a straight red for a two footed tackle. Sheffield make the extra man count as Gyokeres then gets his second when he rises highest and flicks a corner in to the far corner. The game goes to penalties and we lose the shootout 4-3 after Christie hits the post.
So that’s it! We go out in the playoff semi finals in a penalty shootout against Sheffield Wednesday. As much as it is disappointing to lose in that way, the playoffs were my aim at the start as I felt we would fall just short and we could go again stronger next season with us building on the team we currently have got. What a way to end the blog though losing in a penalty shootout for the chance to fight for a place in the Premier League. It has been a really enjoyable save and had we not dropped silly points against teams we should be beating like MK Dons and Preston in this update alone then who knows maybe we could of finished second to run away champions Everton. As I said at the beginning this is the end of this blog due to me not having enough time to play it but should I get time then I will keep you all up to date with a blog update probably similar to my good friend Newgen FM (Not copying honest!) who is also a blogger and highly recommend you go check him out!
A quick look at the season review/awards and the stats from the season. A great season for Hernandez who scored 33 goals and got the most player of the match awards with 9 and also won fan’s player of the season. Goldaniga came in for a bargain price of £1.86 million and was at the heart of the defence and played brilliantly all season. Seuntjens comes a close second for bargain of the season as he played an average of a 7+ all season after signing for under a million if I remember correctly. Should we carry on then I know where we need to improve to hopefully take that extra step along with shipping out the players who are kicking up a fuss and causing trouble in the group. If you joined the blog late then you can start from the beginning and see where we started here. Again I highly recommend you go check out the FM Brotherhood website for all your FM needs with everything from guides to FM stories.
