Season 3 – New team?

Hello! It’s me again and this is just an extra update as something big happened at the end of the season at Tranmere. What we achieved at Tranmere in the two years was pretty special with back to back promotions against the odds and I really enjoyed my time with them but I felt I needed to move on if we were to try and keep moving up the leagues/countries to win as much as we can. So your’e probably thinking what’s happened and where have we gone? Are we still in England? moved to Europe or further afield?

We had a few interviews towards the end of the season and a lot of them rejected us or we had second thoughts on the offers so we rejected them until an interesting offer came in after the final game of the season. We are remaining in England and this could work out for us as it’s a higher step up with an ex Premier League team and we will be managing in the Championship this season. Want to find out where we have gone….?

We have joined Hull City and this could be an interesting project we could build at this club. They are a solid Championship team and aren’t expected to win the league or the play offs yet so we have time on our side to build a team and taking a step at a time to getting them back in to the Premier League.

So why Hull? Well as I say they aren’t expecting us to be fighting for the title straight from the start so that adds more time on to our side and they have amazing facilities which will only help improve the players and hopefully we can bring a few players through the youth team and in to the first team. They have a small but good group of players with Championship experience which we can work with and can add quality to over time as we aim for promotion.

Last season was an average season for them and hopefully we can do better as I am setting myself the target of play offs but maybe it’s to early to tell if we can aim that high. A shock you may see in the league is that Wolves got relegated back to League 1 which is weird and a complete opposite to how they are doing this season irl. I did think about maybe going there but they are a popular team to manage and I feel it’s boring when everyone manages the same teams.

I have a rough idea what formations I would like to use with them and I currently have two in place for them to get to grips with and one of them is my 4312 that has done me so well previously at Tranmere. They are different but we do currently have a couple of good wingers and we may go with the 4231 over pre season and see how we get on with it to start with.

The Team

players 1

players 2

David Marshall – A good solid goalkeeper at this level and will be our number one. He is getting on but still has a couple of seasons left.

Will Mannion – Our young back up goalkeeper who has bags of potential to improve and be our first choice in the future when Marshall retires.

Ryan Fredericks – Our right back and he has pace to burn to get up on and down the right side. Always want my fullbacks to have plenty of pace and he has just that. Got Championship experience as well.

Martin Kelly – Kelly will be our back up but I may look to move him on. A good solid player with good stats for this level.

Michael Dawson – Dawson will continue to be the captain and will be part of our defence. Currently out for a couple of months injured.

Tomas Kalas – A solid player who can play in a number of positions. Will be one of our centre back pairing.

Ondrej Mazuch – Another player with plenty of experience and solid stats to partner Kalas at the back.

Max Clark – Max will fight Kingsley for the left back spot. Can also play on the wing if needed.

Stephen Kingsley – Will fight Clark for the position but possibly our first choice left back but he also wants to leave.

Jackson Irvine – A player I always try and sign when in the top two leagues. A good player and always performs well. Can play anywhere through the middle.

Ryan Mason – A solid player and one of our main players in the first eleven and a player that can help us get promoted.

Ashley Westwood – Another player with plenty of experience for this level and has some great stats for a midfielder.

Markus Henriksen – More strong competition for the midfield spots ans we may look to play with three in midfield.

Jon Toral – Will play behind the striker(s) in either formation. Will look to bring in competition for him.

Jeff Reine-Adelaide – One of our wingers but is on loan from Arsenal and will try and keep him for another season. Young player that can only improve.

Jarrod Bowen – Jarrod can play on either wing or up top. Still young at 22 and heard a lot about him from Hull fans.

Albert Adomah – Adomah at 31 still has the stats to play in the Championship. Will be our main right winger if Bowen does well as a striker.

Leonardo Ulloa – LEO! Oh how he helped us win the Premier League! Will probably try and move him on as he is similar to Okaka who is younger.

Stefano Okaka – One of our better strikers and would potentially partner Hernandez if played two up top.

Abel Hernandez – Abel is our best striker at the club and I won’t be surprised if clubs come after him. Is a strong favourite to be our top goal scorer at the end of the season.

Nouha Dicko – A player who seems a shadow of himself when he use to frighten defenders on a weekly basis. Still has the pace to beat defenders.

The club is classed as rich and we have a transfer budget of £11 million and we may get more should we sell the likes of Kingsley. There are a number of positions I want to try and add to over the summer like right back, centre back, a winger or two depending on if we keep Adelaide, someone to play in behind the strikers and a striker should one move on. So a number of positions to try and sign the right players for so expect a busy transfer window in the next update! I am happy with the squad we have and will try and move on any of the unhappy players so they don’t affect the mood of dressing room.

So there we have it after two seasons we have finally left Tranmere mere and gone up a couple of leagues to join Hull. Hopefully we will face Tranmere in the future if they can continue to build upon what I started there. Hull is a fresh challenge and we actually have money to spend which is something I’ve not been able to have yet. We will only sell our key players if the right offer comes in other than that we will be signing more players than selling. Have we done the right thing? Time will tell but in the early days I have a good feeling and don’t regret moving on. The championship is always a difficult league and anyone can beat anyone so we won’t be taking teams for granted. The next update we will go through pre season, transfers and the start of the season.

Back To Winning Ways?

Alright lads,

After a tough few games where we have lost points we are looking to turn our results around and start winning again. The transfer window is open and we have signed players who can hopefully help us push on. We should have some winnable games coming up to hopefully get us going again and back to what we should be doing on a regular basis. Belhanda has probably been the star of the season as he sits just behind the strikers assisting goals and popping up with his own goal from time to time.

Adam Armstrong – Loan

Demarai Gray – £1 million

Andy King – 650k

Kasper Fuglsang – Free

Sunderland – Home – League – 2nd V 9th

It wasn’t until the second half until we saw a goal and it came from Sunderland. Fraser whips the ball in to Wilson who flicks the ball on the Khazri at the back post to tap in. We reply almost instantly with a beautiful free kick from Belhanda which curls in to the top corner. We take the lead when Belhanda plays Armstrong in on goal to slide the ball under the keeper to score on his debut. Sunderland get a share of the points after Wood loses the ball in their area and they counter before Khazri pulls it back for Wilson to fire home.

Barnsley – Away – League – 19th V 4th

We take an early lead against Barnsley which turned out to be the only goal of the game. Tymon puts a low ball in to the area from the left and Armstrong is free to pass it in to the back of the net. We had a number of chances to put the game to bed and wrap up the points with the best coming from Olomola when he smashes the ball against the inside of the post.

Wolves – Home – League – 2nd V 17th

We get the win against a struggling Wolves side. We take the lead after Armstrong pulls the ball back to Belhanda on the edge of the area to drill in to the top corner. We get a second and wrap up the win when Armstrong breaks away down the left and crosses to O’Kane who side foots it past the keeper and in to the bottom corner.

Burnley – Away – League – 14th V 1st

We take an early lead when a shot from Cook inside the area takes a massive deflection and rolls in to the goal after the keeper was wrong footed. Cook gets his second of the game when Belhanda puts a free kick in to the 6 yard line and Cook heads it in to the far corner clipping the post on the way in. We get a third and it’s Cook with his hat trick after a corner is headed down and he drills it past the keeper. Burnley get in to the game when Clayton volleys the ball in to the top corner from outside the area. We give away a penalty late on when Gibson slides in late on one of their players but Silvestri dives to his right and pushes it away. From that penalty save we break up the other end and Armstrong curls it past the keeper.

Blackburn – Home – League – 1st V 10th

A quiet first half became a lively second as we score 3 within 20 minutes. We open the scoring with about 10 minutes to go when a shot from Olomola is deflected and rolls in to the back of the net. We get a second when Alexander-Arnold has a cross hit the back of a defender and fall to Armstrong on the penalty spot to slot past the keeper. Onomah makes it three in the dying seconds when he makes a late run in to the area and smashes the ball home.

Derby – Away – League – 13th V 1st

Derby take the lead inside 20 minutes after Johnson floats a ball in to the area and Xisco rises highest to head in. They get a second when an early ball is put in to the area and Ambrose is at the near post to flick in. We pull one back when Hendrick plays a long ball over the top for Armstrong to run on to and tuck past the keeper. Derby get a third straight from the kick off after Tymon gets beat and the ball crossed in to Ambrose to fire in at the far post. Armstrong gets a second after a scramble in the area from a corner and he reacts quickest to poke it under the keeper. We get the equaliser when Hendrick plays Armstrong in again to curl past the keeper and get a share of the points.

A much better run of games from us and we are back top of the league. Armstrong has done wonders since arriving and he now looks like our go to man up top. We tried our other tactic out against Derby with new signing Gray ( <3) playing and it did work to an extent but maybe it needed tweaking as we were away and I will look to use it again. We signed Gray for a million and I couldn’t resist at that price as I feel that is a bargain for a player like him. We have a signed a Danish midfielder on a free and he has gone straight out on loan to get some game time and hopefully improve. We also sign King from Leicester for under a million and we did lack a player in the middle. We have some more winnable games coming up and should we keep building on our recent run of results then hopefully we can build on our gap to second place.

A Team Of Bottlers?

Welcome back to the blog as we look to build upon the good start to the season. We have deadline day coming up and I don’t think we need to bring anyone else in unless someone becomes available that would improve the team. We have looked good so far in our opening few games. We also have a cup game coming up against Newcastle in the EFL.

Josh Tymon – Loan

Barnsley – Home – League – 2nd V 3rd

We break the deadlock after a tight opening 20 minutes. Belhanda plays wood through one v one and he curls it in to the bottom corner. Wood gets our second and his second of the game after Belhanda assists once again when he plays it over the top for Wood to volley home.

Wolves – Away – League – 18th V 2nd

Wolves get the only goal of the game when Cavaleiro puts a low ball across the area for Celina to tap in at the far post. A poor game from us despite us dominating from start to finish. We did have half chances to get back in the game from Wood and Onomah but we couldn’t find the back of the net. A typical game where you get ‘FM’d’.

Burnley – Home – League – 2nd V 4th

We take advantage of our good start when we get the opening goal thanks to Olomola slotting the ball under the keeper. Burnley equalise when a ball over the top falls to Stuani to fire past the keeper. We take the lead late on when Abraham robs the ball after their defender plays the ball across the area and he tucks it in at the near post. Burnley equalise once again and take a share of the points when Roberts whips the ball in for Rankin-costello to head home.

Blackburn – Away – League – 20th V 3rd

A shocking performance from us but it wasn’t until the second half when we saw the first goal of the game. Blackburn take the lead when they counter and Vaughan smashes home from the edge of the area. Blackburn double their lead late on when a header from a corner rolls over the line by an inch before it could get cleared. The day goes from bad to worse when Alexander-Arnold gets a straight red for a tackle from behind near the centre circle.

Newcastle – Home – EFL Cup 3rd Round

Newcastle take an early lead when Deulofeu runs down the right and beating his defender before crossing to Armstrong at the near post to tap in. Wood gets our equaliser when a free kick causes a scramble in the area and Wood reacts quickest to poke it home. Newcastle retake the lead straight from kick off when Robertson puts an early ball in to the area and Armstrong loops the ball over the keeper. They get a third when a corner gets knocked down for Dijk to fire in to the corner. Armstrong gets a fourth and his hat trick when he tucks it under the keeper after being one v one. We get humiliated when they get a fifth in injury time when they throw the ball to Bianchetti at the near post to flick in past the keeper.

Derby – Home – League – 3rd V 15th

We get off to a good start against our old side when Gibson heads in at the back post from a corner. We double our lead when Belhanda squares the ball to Wood to fire past the keeper from just inside the area. Derby do pull one back shortly before half time with a header from a corner taking a deflection. We get a third and wrap up the points when a cross from Ayling is headed in to his own goal by Volta.

A pretty poor run of games from us but we are still in the play offs and are not far from the top spot. A humiliating game against Newcastle in the cup put our run in that to an end which I’m not that bothered about to be honest. We did try and bring in a couple more players in on deadline day but they chose other clubs and we move on. Tymon comes in to fight for the left back spot as I’ve not been that impressed by Walker-Peters so far this season and Baines is slowly declining. We have a tough game against Sheffield Wednesday up next and after that we play our beloved Tranmere who I am sure will smash us just to prove we shouldn’t of left them as FM likes to do. We did also loan a few of the fringe players out so they could play regularly and hopefully they can come back and fight to get in to the starting eleven.

A Massive Cup Draw

Welcome back to the blog as we look to turn our fortunes around at Leeds as they are struggling near the bottom of the league and wins are becoming few and far between. We are slowly looking better and better and like a Championship team but we are still lacking that clinical finishing in most games for us to pick up more points.

Crystal Palace – Home – FA Cup 5th Round

We make a strong start to the game and we get the opening goal in the 15th minute. The ball deflects to Maddison in the area and he cooly puts it in to the top corner. We double our lead a few minutes later after Wilson plays a ball over the top to Wood who takes a touch and curls it with the outside of his boot past the keeper. Crystal Palace pull one back early in the second half when they counter and cross to Zaha who is open and slots it past the keeper. We bottle the lead when they equalise with a cross in to the area to tap in. We regain our lead just after the hour mark when Phillips slips Wood in to side foot it in. Antonsson wraps up the win with a brace late on with the first coming after he beats two defenders and curling it round the keeper. He gets his second seconds later with Phillips getting the assist again when he squares to Antonsson to fire it home.

Cup Draw

cup draw

Fulham – Away – League – 10th V 20th

Fulham get the 3 points in what was a very scrappy game with neither team creating serious chances. We concede a penalty when Paredes tackles from behind in the area and Fossati steps up and smashes it in to the bottom corner.

Wolves – Home – 20th V 18th

We took advantage of our good first half performance when we win a corner which gets floated in to the area and Gibson jumps highest and powers it in to the bottom corner. Wolves get the equaliser minutes later with a side footed finish from inside the 6 yard box. We go down to 10 men when Kemen gets a second yellow for a silly tackle in the middle of the pitch. Wolves get the winner with 5 minutes to go with a powerful headed finish from a cross.

Sunderland – Away – League – 2nd V 21st

We concede early when Sunderland when a cross in to the area beats everyone and falls to their striker to tap in. They make it 2 when a ball gets knocked down to Wilson and he fries past the keeper on the edge of the area. They make it 3 when our keeper doesn’t react quick enough and Ndong slides it under him. We pull one back when Phillips squares to O’Kane on the edge of the area and smashes it past the keeper.

Millwall – Home – League – 21st V 22nd

We get the opening goal after we win a penalty which Wilson steps up and converts straight down the middle. Millwall had a chance to pull level just before half time but our keeper made a great save. We get a second when Stacey squares to Machach in the area to tuck in to the bottom corner. He gets a brace when he beats his defender and curls it in to the corner.

Man United – Away – FA Cup 6th Round

A very even first half and we did look the better team going in at half time. We held them out from scoring until late in the second half when Januzaj crosses to Martial who is free at the near post to flick it in. They get a second when Martial controls the ball in the area and beats two defenders with skill and curls it in to the corner hitting the post as it goes in. They make it three when Smalling rises highest at the back post and heads in a free kick whipped in by Mata.

Youth Intake

We are still struggling to pick up the wins but we are playing well and deserve better than what some of the results suggest. The game against Manchester United looks very one sided but in reality we was the better team until late on when they brought on the big players and battered us. We had youth intake day which was awful to be honest with only one player that has any decent potential. If the worse does happen and we get relegated and we keep our job I will stay and aim to return at the first chance. We are running out of time to get back to winning ways and we do only have a slight cushion to the relegation zone.
